Endress+Hauser is a family business, celebrating its 60th anniversary in Reinach. The company started with the capacitive measurement principle, first selling and then manufacturing itself. We realized that measurement is not just one thing; we can use other physical principles like flow, temperature, pressure, and analytical measurements. The product portfolio grew more and more complete. The company was founded in Germany, then we built plants in Switzerland, Holland, the USA, and Japan—the so-called triad or three-legged theory. We expanded successively worldwide. When my father entrusted me with the company, I had already achieved 15 years of experience. Our core competence is measurement technology, sensors, and packaging that integrates into our customers' processes and communicates with higher-level IT systems. The family plays a key role in the company's development. We have a family charter signed on May 2, 2006, after one and a half years of work with the third generation. Our vision is to be a successful family business. We focus on what is important: customers, employees, and participation. I draw security from nature, which has evolved over 5 billion years. Nature teaches us to differentiate and standardize: treat equals equally to save costs and increase efficiency. Our production sites in Switzerland, Germany, and France are high-cost but the most efficient and productive. Productivity depends on infrastructure, transport systems, and avoiding traffic jams. Politics must take responsibility for that. Collaboration with excellent people and networks leads to better solutions. If we interrupt the cycle by moving production to cheaper locations like the Czech Republic or India, we frustrate people and lose the advantage. We have saved a lot of money and gained efficiency by sticking to these principles.
