Please welcome to the stage Sigma co-founder and CEO Dylan Fields.
Dylan Field 1:30 ↗
Hello Config! Welcome to Config 2025. Thank you to everyone who came out, especially from far away, and hello to the 106 Friends of Figma watch parties around the globe. Most talks will be recorded and posted on YouTube. We have an incredible lineup of speakers, including Helena and Jeremy from Severance. We've made big strides in localization: Figma UI is now in Spanish, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. Since the start of 2025, we've shipped 56 updates, including smart symbols, collapsible layers, annotations, AI edit image, and more. Our pace is increasing. Today we have four products: Figjam, Slides, Figma Design, and Dev Mode. The team will share four new products plus an exciting addition to Figma Design. Under the hood, we've optimized performance with intelligent caching and progressive loading, leading to a 33% decrease in load times. We're also rewriting design systems architecture for faster instance updating. Our goal is to get out of your way so you can do your best work. Design is now the process itself—it's about curiosity, details, and pushing what's possible. With AI, design becomes even more essential. A special thank you to Coto Studio for the demo examples. And now, our first announcement: layout. Please welcome Figma designer Giorgio Cavila to the stage.
Giorgio Cavila 9:46 ↗
Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to talk about layout, my favorite subject. Layout is like the dark matter of design—unseen but essential. Grids have been fundamental forever. In Figma, we have auto layout, but creating two-dimensional layouts leads to messy nesting. Today, I'm excited to introduce a brand new auto layout option for grid. Let me show you: you can set up a grid, drag items in, and they automatically span columns and rows. Items fill cells for responsive design. You can resize columns and rows individually, use absolute positioning with control, and nest grids. It maps beautifully to CSS grid in dev mode. This bridges design and development. Thank you to the team. There's a deep dive tomorrow. Back to you, Dylan.
Dylan Field 22:21 ↗
Killed it, man. Thank you, Giorgio. All right, what did you think of our first announcement? Grid will be in Figma Design later today and also available in our next product. Grid makes it easier to design, but you still need to prototype, validate, and build. Dogen said he's been waiting for a publish button for years. Well, Dogen, today we're excited to announce Figma Sites. Figma Sites helps you go from design to live site quickly. To share more, Tom, please come out.
Tom Janatasio 24:03 ↗
There you go. Hi everyone! I'm Tom Janatasio, one of the leads on Figma Sites and also lead our advocacy team. This is my sixth Config. Usually I'm behind the scenes, so it's cool to be on stage. When I think back to the first Config, one of our marquee launches was hyperlinks. Now we're talking about taking designs and deploying them directly from Figma. I have been building websites for about 30 years. I started with weird stuff on GeoCities, which is embarrassing to share, but that's when I fell in love with making things for the web. The idea of building something and sharing it with a single click blew my mind. As a hybrid designer/developer, I always felt a disconnect between design and code. About 13 years ago, I started a company called Macaw with the idea of drawing instead of coding. It lasted a few years, but then one of the original Kickstarter supporters reached out—it was Dylan. He asked if we could turn Figma into a website builder. The answer was yes. We've spent the past couple years reimagining that vision. Thanks to an amazing team, Figma Sites is now a reality. Let's dive in.
Dylan Field 25:02 ↗
Now Tom, I know you have a rich history, very long history of building tools on the internet.
Tom Janatasio 25:09 ↗
Yes, that's Tom's polite way of saying I'm getting old. I've been building websites for about 30 years, starting with GeoCities. I loved the idea of sharing with a click. I felt a disconnect between design and code. So I started Macaw with the idea of drawing instead of coding. It didn't last, but then Dylan asked if we could turn Figma into a website builder. We said yes. Now Figma Sites is a reality. Let's start the demo. We have a design for Kicken. We paste it into the Sites editor. We add breakpoints for tablet and mobile. The design adapts. If I edit the headline, it updates across all breakpoints. You can also make device-specific tweaks. You can pull in components from Figma libraries. Here's a component set with variants for each breakpoint. I'll set it to fill. Now let's add interactions. I'll use preset interactions for a hover effect. I can preview it—it's responsive, and it's actually HTML and CSS. All designs are translated to code that you can use and publish.
Dylan Field 32:55 ↗
Tom, I saw some other effects in there, though.
Tom Janatasio 32:57 ↗
Yeah, there's some more. Let's add parallax to this image, draggable badges with momentum, and a typewriter effect. I think that will look pretty good.
Dylan Field 33:54 ↗
Tom, what do you think?
Tom Janatasio 33:57 ↗
Looks pretty good to me, Tom. Now, what good is it to do all this work if your site remains unseen? Let's click the publish button. Figma will check for issues. We have a custom domain. Let's publish. There we go! We've got our fully responsive website with hover effects, parallax, draggable badges, typewriter effect, and interactive components. This is one of the things I'm most excited about—you can take all your existing Figma skills and apply them to building websites in Figma Sites. We want to give a huge shout-out to our alpha users, including Bruno Figo, Vigmazone Story Studio, and Read CV. We've also partnered with Play Studio for a collection of gorgeous templates. Go to the next slide.
Dylan Field 36:01 ↗
So Figma Sites is launching in beta today. It'll be available to everyone with a full seat on a paid plan, and we'll roll out access to starter soon. In the future, there will be additional fees for hosting, custom domains, or bandwidth. Now, before we wrap, we wanted to give you a preview of what's coming next. Tom and I are going to show you a couple of features the team has been working on. We know many of you will build content-heavy websites, so we're building a CMS directly integrated into Figma Sites. And we're also introducing code layers for more complex interactions. Tom, over to you.
Tom Janatasio 36:51 ↗
Okay, here we are back on Kicken's website. We're scaffolding a blog page. Instead of editing content manually, we have a CMS. You can create collections, define properties, and edit content in a focused view. Then connect mode maps properties to layers. The content subs in dynamically. You can preview entries on the canvas and inline edit. CMS is coming later this year. Now let's talk about code. Sometimes you need something more complex. Here, Kicken wants an interactive calculator. You can't do that with point-and-click interactions alone. So we have code layers. Select a design and click 'make code from design' to convert layers to React and Tailwind. You can then write custom interactions. Here's an example already built. I can tweak the code, like adjusting animation duration, and it updates live. You can import npm modules, use Figma-provided hooks, and customize for breakpoints. Code layers are also coming soon. CMS and code layers are two of many updates planned for Figma Sites. We can't wait to see what you publish. Back to you, Dylan.
