Co-owning a Superyacht | Feadship Unveils

Yes, it was a very nice meeting, followed up by one of our colleagues in the States. He met these two brothers who had a quick boat, a Pershing, and were now looking for something very comfortable.

Yes and no. I mean, they were looking for a 60-metre yacht or thereabouts… And still wanted to go 18 knots. That’s not necessarily slow. But the looks had to be aggressive. It had to look like a fast boat.

They’d used their previous yacht for day trips and now wanted to stay longer at sea. An interesting part of the brief was that the brothers both required an owner’s stateroom. As they would be using the boat at the same time. We see dual ownership more often, but in this case they both wanted a master cabin. That was a very nice part of the brief that we needed to figure out and start with. It was really quite a challenge on a lower volume 60-metre. The clients were also keen on watersports with a dream to have a wake boat on the yacht. That was another challenge to find a spot for that as well as a large tender and lots of outdoor space. They really wanted to be out and about. Sea access was really important for both owners.

That was a nice addition to add to the design, creating a hot tub in the stateroom.

This is indeed how she turned out. It’s most important to get where the owners are going to sleep right. Connect them with the flow of the crew and all the guest areas at the same time. Having that all work in harmony is the main challenge.

I’ll grab the model so we can run through a few features. The full walkaround on the bridge deck was a fantastic addition. It keeps the volume lower. What I particularly like is the central casing of the vessel. You get these fantastic views at the aft of the boat; 270 degrees uninterrupted. They give a great feeling when you’re on board.

In this particular case, because the owners wanted two staterooms…

The two options are putting both owners on the lower deck, or giving them a little distance from each other… By having one owner on the main deck forward, and one on the lower deck aft.

We solved that by giving them both a large hatch opening from the hull. Giving them both access and connection to the sea.

I kept in the back of my head that it had to look fast even when standing still. When developing the hull lines a lot of yachts have either a flowing S-line… Or a more linear design. Linear lines carry a lot of speed. So, I went for a linear design concept with a few extra highlights… Inspired by the automotive industry. From classic Alfa Romeos and a classic Bugatti. The key feature was running along the sheer line of the vessel. Here we have an accelerating kink in the design which reduces the black glass of the bridge deck. And creates an extra speedy look.

It has to be the second owner’s stateroom close to the water with the private jacuzzi. I would have chosen that myself. Being able to access the sea, come back in, jump in the hot tub, and back into the sea… What more could you want in life?
