About Satoru Shibata

During a June 2012 Nintendo Direct broadcast from Nintendo of Europe’s warehouse in Germany, Satoru Shibata announced the Nintendo 3DS XL. Shibata stated that the company developed the larger-screen hardware after receiving feedback from handheld fans. He noted that the system would not include an AC adapter, explaining that Nintendo decided to make the screen larger while keeping the purchase price "reasonable" and that many fans already owned a compatible adapter. Shibata also discussed the game New Super Mario Bros. 2, describing its "Coin Rush" mode and stating that after launch the company would offer additional downloadable content based on player feedback. Other announcements included the availability of a special character for Mario Tennis Open via QR code, and the introduction of a Sega representative who presented news about Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Hello everyone. Right now I'm in Kyoto, Japan at the Nintendo headquarters. We've just finished a conference to prepare for the next Nintendo Direct. I think it would be a good idea to find out more about what we are planning to do. I'd like to conduct a very special short version of Shibata asks today. Actually there has always been a person whom I wanted to ask questions to. Let's call him in. Hello Mr. Shibata.

Hello Mr. Shibata. I heard you have some questions to ask me. So you are conducting Shibata asks? So here I am. What is it that you want to ask me? Yes, actually there are a lot to ask you. Okay, it is a little strange to be the person being interviewed since I have always been the person interviewing others. Oh Mr. Shibata, by the way. Yes, Mr. Shibata, both you and I are Sat. Yes, so that makes us double Satles, doesn't it? We are right comedians. And we, this looks quite different from the regular Shibata asks. Shall we start now? Yes, we.

For this Nintendo Direct we are going to focus on Wii U. We presented Wii U at the E3 conference in Los Angeles, but now we want to provide more information on the hardware as well as details on Wii U software.

What kind of software will we be talking about?
S
Satoru Shibata2:05
We will take a closer look at the titles that will be available on launch day and also software available in the launch window. This will include software from Nintendo and also other publishers. The launch window means until the end of March 2013. That's right. And we can also confirm some new titles that haven't been announced before.

Okay, now before I read for Europe, I'd like to ask you if there is anything you would like to say to European fans about the presentation.

Okay, I hope that after the presentation viewers will have an even better idea of what Wii U brings to gaming. This is a console that can be enjoyed in any social situation, played alone or with family and friends together. The unique features of Wii U offer new experiences to all gamers, and I hope everyone in Europe will have a lot of fun discovering them.

Then, double Satoru has presented to you Nintendo Direct. Hello everyone, I'm back in Germany now and ready to present today's Nintendo Direct which is all about Wii U. Let's get started right away with the console itself. As Mr. Shibata and I mentioned, the first thing I want to tell you is what you can expect in shops on launch day. There will be two options for buying your Wii U console: the basic pack and the premium pack. We have created two different packs because we would like to offer more than one option to people depending on their gaming style. Let's look at what is included. The basic pack includes a white Wii U console with 8 GB of storage, a white Wii U game pad, two AC adapters, and an HDMI cable. The premium pack has a black console and game pad with 32 GB of storage, plus a stand for each, a charging cradle, sensor bar, and Nintendo Land software. It also offers a reward program called Nintendo Network premium, giving you points worth about 10% of your eShop purchases. Regarding compatibility, many Wii accessories work with Wii U, so we've kept the basic pack affordable. There's also a new Wii U Pro controller. Most Wii software is compatible, and you can transfer downloaded titles. The console supports HD graphics up to 1080p, has 2 GB of memory (1 GB for games, 1 GB for system), and a 25 GB disc drive. The game pad includes a gyro sensor, microphone, speaker, and touchscreen. For full specs, visit the website. One game pad is included per pack, and two can be connected in the future. So that's what you get when you buy your Wii U. And today I can reveal that Wii U will be available in Europe on November 30th.
