In February 2013, Stefan Schulte, as Chairman of the Executive Board of Fraport AG, participated in the opening ceremony of the company's new corporate headquarters. Schulte highlighted the building's sustainability features, including a photovoltaic system on the south facade to power electric vehicles in the garage. He explained that the roof uses a foil membrane instead of glass, with adjustable layers of dotted foil to control sunlight entry, comparing the system to a variable blind. The German Sustainable Building Council awarded the project a Gold certificate for its energy efficiency standards.

Well, we have implemented open standards here, we have implemented team workspaces here. That means, knowledge transfer between different employees will happen much faster, much better. We have all administrative units, all essential administrative units now in one place, which means significantly shorter paths, thus time savings, and I believe we have a very pleasant, modern environment, which will also be good for the employees, because it is important that they feel at home here, feel comfortable, as it is their workplace.

Around 700 employees from ten different departments will work in the new building complex in the future. With over 23,000 square meters of gross floor area, there is also enough space. Some employees have already moved in, the others will follow by the end of March. One thing is already certain: the employees are looking forward to working in the most modern building at Frankfurt Airport.

Well, I am here for the first time, I haven't seen much yet, but I like this open concept, it appeals to me very much, although I don't really know any details yet and simply think it will suit me. It is open work and yet surprisingly quiet. There was concern from many that it would be noisy here, that you would have no privacy anymore. I can't confirm that at all now. It is really pleasant, modern, and for us who were previously in the south, it also feels more like being back at the airport. So, it is simply very nice.

The new offices are bright, spacious, and modern. The interior design has been optimized in terms of acoustics, climate, lighting, and ergonomics. Employees can look forward to particularly back-friendly office chairs and height-adjustable desks. The workstations are designed to offer the possibility to work under concentration. On the other hand, to simplify exchange. The trend towards open office spaces has been implemented here. The work environment is changing faster than before, and the demands on employees for flexibility, communication, cross-departmental work are becoming higher, and employees must work much more strongly in changing teams, work together faster, and really talk more with each other. And for this challenge, different structures are needed; individual offices no longer suffice. As with all new buildings on the airport grounds, special emphasis was placed on the sustainability of the corporate headquarters. Among other things, a photovoltaic system was installed on the south facade, whose generated energy can charge electric vehicles in the underground garage. Also, the roof of the 57 million euro expensive building is a special feature. We chose a foil roof instead of a glass roof. That has an advantage. We can variably design the sun protection we integrated there. We have applied dots on the foil, different sizes, and we have a second layer that we can control anew, also equipped with dots of different sizes. And the further apart these two foils are, the more solar gain we have. If we bring the two foils together, we have a closed surface like a blind. With simple means, a lot of energy can be saved. By the way, due to the high energy efficiency standards, the German Sustainable Building Council has already awarded the planning of the building complex with its Gold certification.
