The automotive superset tech stack: Scale and innovation | Anders Bell

Hello, my name is Anders Bell. At Volvo Cars, we are all about safety. It feels special to be in a room of superheroes working on autonomy and ADAS. Thank you for your efforts to save lives. The software defined vehicle as a technology platform for the sake of safety alone justifies the entire effort and the entire enterprise. I'm going to talk about our comprehensive approach to software defined vehicles. We have the EX90, built in South Carolina, our first vehicle fully based on a core compute system, first deliveries this month. It is radically different from the XC90, which is the pinnacle of domain-based architecture. We are launching the same infotainment HMI on both, and we will over-the-air update 2.5 million cars. Our whole relationship to the product changes with the transition to a software defined vehicle; it's a company-wide change. We need scalable vehicle architecture, propulsion and energy roadmaps, evolutionary electronics, and software on top of every consideration. We call it the 'superet' tech stack, continuously improving under one software stack. For safety, we have collected 50,000 accidents and now use software to close the loop with real-world insight. This justifies all our investments. From this point on, we have all the time in the world because we never start from scratch again. Our ADAS journey towards zero is through safe automation.
