On September 30, 2024, Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions, spoke at the official opening of Quest One's Gigahub in Hamburg, a facility described as one of the world's most modern and largest development and manufacturing centers for the serial and automated production of electrolysis stacks. Lauber stated that the series production of stacks will increase the availability of green hydrogen, as stacks are the technological centerpiece of an electrolyzer used to produce hydrogen. He called the Gigahub "the most modern production facility in the hydrogen economy in Europe" and "the largest at five gigawatts," describing it as "a huge investment." In his remarks, Lauber characterized the path to decarbonization as "an enormous, rocky path of transformation" and said that "impatience that things are not always progressing quickly enough must not turn into frustration." He argued that "decarbonization means either electrification or the use of synthetic fuels" and that "renewable electricity will therefore become the most important raw material in our economy and must be available at competitive prices." Lauber added that "the technologies we need are already ready for the market today" and that "the current challenge lies in implementation."
