Hi, I'm Bejoy Pankajakshan, Chief Strategy Officer for Mavenir. I'd like to start by thanking the Indian Mobile Congress for inviting Mavenir to give the keynote presentation on Open RAN: Revolutionizing Open Access Network from Procurement to Performance. Mavenir has been leading the Open RAN initiative starting with the xRAN project prior to O-RAN itself being created. Mavenir is also very active in TIP and other Open RAN initiatives. Today I'll present different aspects of Open RAN: the definition, the benefits, including how the procurement supply chain is widened, and how Open RAN can be used to deliver solutions meeting and exceeding key performance indicators. I'll also address some frequently asked questions in Open RAN such as security and challenges with deployment. A quick intro on Mavenir: Mavenir is an open architecture based cloud-native end-to-end software provider supporting more than 250 customers in 120 plus countries. More than 4 billion mobile subscribers are served by Mavenir products, including more than 350 million subscribers today on NFV OpenStack deployed in multiple tier one operators globally on very large scale. We run 4,200 employees with a significant portion in R&D. Mavenir gained market leadership in the transition from 3G to 4G where we moved from circuit switched voice to voice over LTE networks, a software revolution on the core side. The industry is now moving through a similar revolution on the radio access side, and Mavenir is again leading this effort with our Open RAN solution. We're the only US headquartered end-to-end network software provider. Our portfolio includes radio, edge computing, packet core, IMS core, private networks, as well as the container platform and management tools for orchestration and slicing. There's confusion between Open RAN, O-RAN, and vRAN. vRAN virtualizes network functions on general purpose processors but can use open or closed interfaces. O-RAN is an alliance creating specifications with openness and intelligence. Open RAN is a disaggregated RAN supply chain with open, interoperable, standardized interfaces adhering to O-RAN specs, running on open compute hardware, with third-party radio units at lower cost. Traditional RAN is costly and struggles with data and spectrum growth. For example, spectrum needs in five leading 5G countries grew at 26% CAGR over four years. Open RAN reduces cost by an estimated 48% in CapEx and OpEx, and with a cumulative 170 billion radio market over four years, that's substantial. Even in 2025, 2G and 3G will still be 25% of traffic, so operators need a single modernized network supporting all Gs. This drove Mavenir's acquisition of IP Access, integrating 2G/3G into Open RAN with containerized DU and CU for multi-RAT support from 2G to 5G. Network modernization involves multi-cloud deployments, and when only the radio is closed, inefficiencies arise. A common platform for Open RAN, packet core, and IMS allows common automation, CI/CD, and network-wide insights for optimization and dynamic slicing. Open RAN is real: Mavenir has deployments with Dish in the US, Vodafone UK, and Vodafone India, among others. Despite false claims about integration costs, tier one operators are adopting Open RAN. We've partnered with system integrators like Goodman Networks and GDT. Open RAN widens the supply chain, reduces vendor lock-in, and accelerates upgrades. Our solution supports various use cases with in-house or partner radios from NEC, Sunway, KMW, etc., covering macro cells, small cells, neutral host, and 5G hotspots with massive MIMO and millimeter wave. KPIs are on par with traditional RAN, as shown in brownfield deployments. O-RAN specs ensure no performance degradation. Mavenir has extensions for massive MIMO mobility and interference. Barriers include lack of Open RAN radios; we address this with partners and in-house development. We need low-cost volume manufacturers. Radio maturity is growing; Mavenir's DU software stack helps RU vendors accelerate O-RAN radio delivery. O-RAN testing and validation includes IOT profiles and plugfests, with no official certification yet but base profiles created. Security concerns are addressed by a special O-RAN subgroup. In conclusion, Open RAN is real, happening now in tier one accounts, meeting KPIs in greenfield and brownfield deployments. Operators can get integrated service delivery from Mavenir as a system integrator. Thank you.
