The annual Boao Forum for Asia was held from April 20 to 22 with the theme of meeting challenges and cooperating for a shared future. In his opening speech, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that the fundamentals of the Chinese economy, including its strong resilience, huge potential, great margin of maneuver, and long-term viability, remain unchanged. He stated that the Chinese economy will bring great dynamism to global stability and recovery, as well as wider market opportunities for all countries. Mr. Depoux, what are the opportunities offered by the Chinese market according to you?

Denis Depoux0:53
Yes, I listened carefully to the President's speech. I heard a message of resilience that corresponds to our vision of the Chinese economy, as well as the difficulties it must face, and the constant, agile adaptation of policy to find balance and achieve stability, which is the government's goal. I heard a strong message on multilateralism and support for international institutions, especially the United Nations, mentioned several times, with a nod to the Bandung Conference. It reminded me of the Bandung Conference of 1955, the start of the non-aligned movement. It's interesting to remember that at a time when geopolitical tensions can create blocks and unproductive tensions. I heard a message on Asia and the importance of regional exchanges, both economic and not only economic, so China's role in facilitating these exchanges is the subject of the Boao Forum. As Mr. Dean said, in the current economic context, there is strong potential to further develop exchanges with gradual reduction of customs tariffs, particularly with Japan and Korea, where tariffs are still high, and the RCEP creates a perspective for reduction over 10 years. This regionalization of exchanges is important and will create global growth.

And what is your view on the role played by forums, first in favor of regional cooperation in Asia at large, the Boao Forum?
D
Denis Depoux3:28
The Boao Forum is always a welcome platform each year because it is multifaceted. We find government officials from many Asian countries, industrialists, merchants, people from technology and finance, and investors of all sizes. For New Holland Agriculture, we meet all our clients, both international and Chinese. It's like the World Economic Forum of Asia, a very effective platform for exchanges, whether in person or online this year due to difficulties in Shanghai. These exchanges are always quick and fruitful, coming at an interesting time in the Chinese political year after the two sessions, allowing discussions on China's interaction with the rest of Asia and the world. It's a very useful forum, perhaps not for initiating cooperation, but for exchanges, updating everyone, and seeking consensus on economic and governance questions. It's one of the great moments of global economic exchanges, alongside Davos and other institutional events.
