About Alexander Geis

Alexander Geis, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of SAF-HOLLAND, discussed the company's growth and strategy in an interview at ExpoTransporte 2022. Geis stated that the Mexican market is growing and that the company is gaining market share for its truck products, trailer products, and aftermarket components. He noted that SAF-HOLLAND has made investments in Mexico, including assembling axles and fifth wheels in Querétaro, and is finalizing construction of a new plant in Piedras Negras. Geis also highlighted the company's recent acquisition of Haldex, which he said would integrate the two groups and boost the company's revenue to around 2 billion euros. He described this as a "game changer," making SAF-HOLLAND "the ultimate only supplier worldwide with the telematic system with trailer EPS, the smart axles as a whole combination." He added that the company launched an electric driven axle and a system that recovers energy into a battery pack for cooling units at the IAA transportation show in Hanover.

We have been working for the company for quite a while. Back in the early 90s I started my career. Ten years ago I was the president for the aftermarket, also responsible for the Mexican market at that time, so I got to know a lot of dealers and aftermarket customers in that region. Since early 2019 I have been heading the company as the CEO. This is a huge opportunity, huge market, great potential. It is a great opportunity in the Americas, also in North America. Our home base in the US and Canada is strong, but now the Mexican market is growing and growing. We are gaining market share for our truck products, trailer products, and aftermarket components. In Mexico, back in 2014 I founded a company here and moved into our first warehouse in 2019. We moved to new premises in Querétaro, where two years ago we started axle assembly, and this year began assembly of aftermarket fifth wheels. Good investments are being made; Mexico is one of our top five markets globally. There are always challenges: we must deliver superb products at reasonable prices, provide excellent aftermarket service, and ensure spare parts availability. Our dedicated team in Mexico is mastering those challenges. Our formula is good service, good products, and partnerships with customers in trucks, trailers, and aftermarket. Recently at the IAA in Hanover we launched new products: an electric driven trailer axle, a recuperating axle that generates energy into a battery pack, and a partnership with Carrier for cooling units that use that energy. We also made a successful bid for Haldex, integrating the two groups and boosting us to about 2 billion euros in sales. We are now the only supplier worldwide offering a telematic system, trailer EPS, and smart axles as a complete combination – a game changer. Mexico's importance: we have top five subsidiaries in terms of sales, and we are building a new plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, with the first stage for OE fifth wheel production to move in during Q2 next year. I am happy to be here, having known clients for 15 years. I feel very welcome; this is partnership.
