The decision on Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu's parliamentary membership was dropped after a court ruling. He had been dismissed after a 2-year-6-month prison sentence was read in parliament. He did not leave the parliament and staged a protest in the HDP group room. On Sunday, he was detained in parliament on another charge, released after questioning. Today, he filed an individual application with the Constitutional Court to annul the dismissal. Also, the Constitutional Court recently rejected Osman Kavala's individual application; the reasoned decision stated the arrest was proportionate and that alternatives to detention would be insufficient. Kavala was acquitted in the Gezi Park case but rearrested in the July 15 coup investigation; the court rejected his appeal by 8 votes to 7. Meanwhile, Education Minister Ziya Selçuk told Habertürk that the increase in case numbers is not due to schools being open. He said the decision to keep schools open stands, about 10% of teachers are vaccinated, and vaccination should not be a condition for opening. He evaluated distance education: participation rates are 66% in primary, 73% in middle school, and 77% in high school.
