From copper country to Giga Germany. (Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO Vodafone Germany)

This was very kind. It's a pleasure being here, a place full of ideas, inspiration, and innovation. I'd like to walk you through what's about to come: technology, competitive proceedings, and where Germany stands. We are still a bit of a copper country, but the future is gigabit networks, fiber, and 5G. Look at the US, China, UAE—things are moving quickly. For example, the Boring Company in Chicago connects the city to the airport in 12 minutes instead of 40. It's a battery-powered car at 240 km/h—they just do it, they don't discuss it to death. That's the attitude we need. Another example: a supermarket in Shanghai where you order via mobile and food comes to you autonomously. Or 3D printing an office in 17 days at low cost. These are new ideas. We need a gigabit society—highly connected, modern, optimistic. Technology should support people, not the other way around. Our slogan: 'Connecting for a better future.' In Germany, our infrastructure is falling behind. Two years ago, people said 50 Mbps was enough. We said no, we need a step change to gigabit. Last week we announced we'll connect 12 million households with gigabit speed by end of this year. We invest heavily in fiber and 5G. 5G is not just for smartphones; it's crucial for industry—connecting sensors, AI, turning products into services. Key 5G features: capacity via beamforming and massive MIMO, latency down to 1 millisecond (real-time control of cranes, drones, cars), and core slicing for dedicated networks. IoT is a growth driver; Vodafone is the world market leader with 74 million SIM cards, growing 20-30%. We expect 75 billion connected things in a few years. We're upgrading a base station every four hours, but it takes two years to build one due to bureaucracy. We need better framework conditions. The 5G spectrum auction is critical for Germany's future. We are committed to invest and build the infrastructure. And we're supporting the first German mission to the moon—Vodafone will provide the network for the lunar village by 2030. That's the kind of bold thinking we need. Thank you very much.
