About Cho Hyun-joon

Cho Hyun-joon, chairman of Hyosung Group, spoke at the opening of Magnetic March 2018 in Mumbai, where he described India as a country that "boasts one of the highest economic growth rates" and said it "will be the most powerful global economic engines in the future." He credited Prime Minister Modi's "Make in India" policy with laying "the building blocks for a culture of innovation in India" and cited tax reforms and a business-friendly environment as factors that have led Hyosung to seek a role in the Indian economy. Cho noted that Hyosung first began operations in New Delhi in 2007 and that its spandex brand was the first business to benefit from its presence in India. He also stated that an electric grid produced by Hyosung's heavy electric plant in Pune is helping to link India's electrical grid. Cho referenced the historical bond between India and Korea, mentioning the marriage of an Indian princess to a Korean king in 48 AD, and expressed Hyosung's commitment to contributing to India's development.

Namaste India, Namaste Mirage. Honorable Prime Minister Modi ji, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, and distinguished guests, it is my great pleasure to be here with you. My name is Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung Group, a Korean-based entity. India and Korea are geographically distant, but our relationship is akin to that of friendly neighbors. As one of the four grand civilizations, India has had a profound religious influence in Korea and our people. I was reminded of India and Korea's royal bond of 2,000 years. This bond was created when in 48 AD the Indian princess from Ayodhya, Queen Suri Ratna, bravely made the sea passage to Korea and eventually married a Korean king of Gaya province. Coincidentally, it is in Haman, a region within Gaya, where 2,000 years ago the Choi family, my family, settled down and has lived ever since. It is a true honor for me to be here in Mumbai. I hope this event will provide a platform for deep cooperation and mutual success. Today, India is a country that boasts one of the highest economic growth rates and stands as the vanguard of the technology industry. It is no exaggeration to say that India will be the most powerful global economic engine in the future. In particular, the Make in India policy set forth by Prime Minister Modi laid down the building blocks for a culture of innovation in India. The repealing of outdated laws, tax reforms, creation of online cities and engagement platforms, and an environment friendly for foreign companies, among other policies, have led companies like Hyosung, like many other companies, to work hard to find a place in the Indian economy. As a result, India has the highest increase in foreign direct investment. No question, these efforts are also benefiting from India's favorable demographics and the vibrant energy of the people. The future is built upon the present, and 'you must be the change you want to see in the world' are a few of the words of wisdom left behind by my personal hero Mahatma Gandhi, and a quote that I believe best reflect what India is today. Ten years have already passed since Hyosung Group first started its operation in New Delhi in 2007. With the government's full support, Hyosung's number one brand Spandex was the first business to benefit from its presence in India, and the electric grid produced by our heavy electric plant in Pune is helping link India's vast electrical grid. Distinguished guests, as India launches herself to new heights on the international stage, Hyosung also aspires to be an important contributor to that journey. We are absolutely committed to India's grand mission and hope that we will live up to our expectations. I would like to congratulate the opening of Magnetic Maharashtra 2018 and to send my warmest regards on this special occasion to Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra.
