BFM Business presents the great interview with Edwis Chevrillon. Good evening everyone, welcome to the great interview. Tonight, it's the king of wallets, digital assets, cryptos who is with us. It's Pascal Gautier, the CEO of Ledger. Good evening Pascal.
Pascal Gauthier 0:19 ↗
Good evening, you make me blush.
Edwis Chevrillon 0:20 ↗
Yes, thank you for being here. We have many questions for you. First, it's interesting to describe what's happening with crypto assets because before it was in a small corner, but now everyone is talking about it. You even accompanied, I believe, the President of the Republic in Asia and dined with him last night in the context of VivaTech. You'll tell us what he said, what happened. Just a word because now when we say cryptocurrency, we necessarily think of a bit of winter because it's your associate who was kidnapped. We saw that there was the daughter of another personality in the crypto world as well. How do you explain that? What is it?
Pascal Gauthier 1:01 ↗
Well, listen, first of all, how is your associate? Already, everyone is doing well, thank God. And we thank the law enforcement forces because they do an extraordinary work. The Ministry of the Interior which helps a lot and put things in place very quickly with a lot of follow-up. And then you know, cryptos in general, cryptocurrencies make people dream. There's a very positive side, as you said in your introduction, it's starting to be something that really moves the world. And that's the negative side of the fantasy, meaning it attracts criminals too. But it's not the right way to steal money, cryptocurrencies, because they are traceable, because all transactions are in a public register, and we see that all these attempts so far have failed. We remain, of course, very vigilant and we find that it's a very sad moment and that crime doesn't pay and here clearly the game isn't worth the candle.
Edwis Chevrillon 2:03 ↗
Yes. And plus, it's true that it makes people dream as you said because it's easy money, we have the impression suddenly we see the fluctuations on Bitcoin, and at the same time you tell us everything is traceable so it's a bit absurd.
Pascal Gauthier 2:15 ↗
Yes. No, but that's it. It means there's still education to do on how it works and how it can be used, and that's what we're trying to do. We have, by the way, an education platform at Ledger which is part of the three largest education platforms in the world and precisely to educate people on this transformation because it's a real revolution. It completely changes the way money was changed from peer to peer online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, everywhere in the world. And so, well, all this, we have to relearn things. We have to forget a bit what we learned before since the transfer of money is changing.
Edwis Chevrillon 2:51 ↗
Yes. So, we'll quickly remind what Ledger is. It's the global leader in securing digital assets, roughly 20% of the total volume of crypto assets, that's enormous. And 30% of NFTs, it remains in this scope, yes.
Pascal Gauthier 3:05 ↗
Yes, that's right. So, it's secured with technology for the users. That means Ledger keeps nothing. We are not wallets, we are safes. We are not custodians at all. There, they are small safes but indeed they are the numbers. So it's a real success.
Edwis Chevrillon 3:21 ↗
Today Ledger is a French company that is first turned towards the consumer but also has an enterprise offer and is world category leader. Meaning we sell products in all countries, 180 countries.
