Today we're doing a miniseries with Bo Hines, executive director of the presidential working group on digital assets. He works closely with David Sacks. Welcome to the show.
Bo Hines 0:22 ↗
Thanks for having me. It's an exciting time for crypto.
Host 0:24 ↗
Very exciting. Bo, how did you get into this space? What were you doing before?
Bo Hines 0:33 ↗
I played in the Bitcoin Bowl as a freshman at NC State, which sparked my interest. I bought my first Bitcoin, became an avid trader, transferred to Yale, then studied blockchain law at Wake Forest. I became a general partner in a growth equity firm and ran for Congress in 2022, losing by about a point. I've always loved the crypto community, and we have a unique opportunity now to make monumental change under President Trump.
Host 1:48 ↗
Love that, Bo. What does Crypto in America mean for you?
Bo Hines 1:55 ↗
Institutional and mainstream adoption. With stablecoin legislation on the Hill and the bipartisan vote out of Senate Banking, the US is leading. The president wants these priorities through before August recess. We're going to make the US the crypto capital of the planet.
Host 3:29 ↗
You said stablecoin legislation could be on the president's desk within two months. What about market structure? Can we get that done by the end of the year?
Bo Hines 3:40 ↗
The bicameral working group on digital assets was monumental. The president wants both stablecoins and market structure on his desk before August recess. I'm confident we can get both done.
Host 4:29 ↗
What does the golden age for digital assets look like beyond August recess and through 2025?
Bo Hines 4:38 ↗
Leading the globe in innovation, onshoring actors pushed offshore, welcoming new retail investors, and mending the gap between institutional banks and digital asset firms.
Host 5:07 ↗
At the White House crypto summit, you mentioned budget-neutral ways to buy Bitcoin. Can you give an example?
Bo Hines 5:24 ↗
Senator Lummis' Bitcoin Act of 2025 suggests realizing the true value of gold certificates. There are many ideas. Secretary Bessent and Secretary Lutnick will help flesh out the best ones.
Host 6:12 ↗
Could you sell some of the gold in Fort Knox to buy Bitcoin?
Bo Hines 6:18 ↗
If it's budget-neutral and doesn't cost the taxpayer, exchanging one for the other is possible. We'll consider creative ideas.
