What happens when AI agents become the primary users of blockchain? At Consensus Miami, Crypto Megan sits down with Yat Siu, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, to discuss why AI agents could drive the next wave of Web3 adoption. They explore the future of the metaverse, autonomous AI assistants, blockchain infrastructure, crypto wallets, tokenised economies, and practical AI use cases that save time and money. Yat also shares how he uses more than 200 AI agents to automate coding, research, genealogy, shopping, and productivity, offering a fascinating glimpse into the next er...

Yat Siu, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Animoca Brands, discussed the metaverse as an agentic future where billions of AI agents will trade and impact the physical world, with blockchain as the native financial layer. He noted Bored Apes trading above 10 ETH again, a level last seen in August 2021, signaling a resurgence. Siu argued blockchain was built for this agentic future, citing trillions in transactions and institutional adoption by BlackRock and Fidelity, but consumer friction remains. He said chains must specialize to survive, echoing Vitalik Buterin. Siu revealed Animoca has over 200 AI agents, including nine coding pods and a genealogy agent that outperformed Ancestry.com. He described practical uses like egg price arbitrage in Hong Kong (up to 75% savings) and social coordination. He promoted Hello Minds, where users can launch an agent with one email, and predicted the next billion users will come through agents.

  1. 0:03AIBC is coming up in November in Rome, but right now we're at Consensus and you just had a panel or keynote earlier today, right?
  2. 1:52So would you say blockchain was essentially built for this purpose?
  3. 4:26So, how many AI agents do you have?
  4. 4:36We didn't cover this in the fireside chat. What are they capable of?

My name is Megan Nilson, aka CryptoMegan, coming to you live from Consensus in Miami. We're doing a feature powered by AIBC, the big event coming up in November, and we're here in the US to see the differences and convergence of these two powerful events. AIBC is coming up in November in Rome, but right now we're at Consensus and you just had a panel or keynote earlier today, right?
Yat Siu 0:25 ↗
Yes, I did.
Megan Nilson 0:27 ↗
Tell us about that.
Yat Siu 0:28 ↗
I talked about the metaverse. People wonder why we're still talking about it, but the metaverse isn't about VR goggles — it's coming to us through billions of AI agents that affect our lives, do trades, and impact the physical world. Blockchain is necessary because it's agentic finance: agents will trade with each other, have wallets, and crypto is native for AI. On CoinDesk Live, I pointed out that Bored Apes is above 10 ETH again, last time that happened was August 2021, so we're seeing a resurgence.
Megan Nilson 1:29 ↗
So, we're seeing a sort of resurgence.
Yat Siu 1:30 ↗
It's seeing a resurgence. It's looking good. NFTs never left, but it's starting to feel pretty positive.
Megan Nilson 1:36 ↗
Yeah, I would agree with you. I'm also very optimistic in this space.
Yat Siu 1:40 ↗
I see everything optimistically. The whole movement of Bored Apes and the metaverse was something we imagined, but now it's different — our perspective is an inversion, an immersion.
Megan Nilson 1:52 ↗
Right. So would you say blockchain was essentially built for this purpose?
Yat Siu 1:56 ↗
Absolutely. Everything we built on blockchain was the PC for the agentic future. We scaled technology over 7-8 years. Today, trillions are transacted, good enough for BlackRock and Fidelity, but consumers haven't used it because it's difficult — seed phrases, hashes. For an AI agent, no problem. My mom will get crypto by saying 'I want to buy Bitcoin' and the agent does it, regardless of the chain.
Megan Nilson 3:04 ↗
Right. Which is interesting because I did some interviews about chains being distribution channels, but that's not the argument for adoption.
Yat Siu 3:16 ↗
Yes, chains were distribution channels because token holders were target customers. But for mass adoption, users won't care which chain their assets are on. You have chain champions, but general users just use it. Chains need to specialize to survive, as Vitalik said.
Megan Nilson 4:08 ↗
And just have a more niche focus.
Yat Siu 4:11 ↗
Chains can do everything, but you focus on what you want to be best at. Same with AI.
