Good evening ladies and gentlemen, it's said, and good evening especially to the 2018 social entrepreneurs awardees. It's a real pleasure to be here again this evening as we showcase and celebrate the achievements of the 2018 Social Entrepreneurs Ireland awardees. It's truly humbling, and it's a real honor to have had the opportunity to present the awards to such a wonderful group of motivated people, a group of inspirational people that we can all be inspired by. We witnessed the eight videos which showed the power of an idea that turns a team into reality, and we've seen that in each of the awards. You know, we in DCC have an awful lot in common with social entrepreneurs. The DCC business has grown over 42 years from an initial idea, an entrepreneurial startup, to an organization that has sales of 19 billion euros, that operates in 17 countries on three continents, and employs 12,000 people. From an initial idea, great businesses can be created if you have the entrepreneurial flair, if you have the passion, if you have the ambition, and if you have the desire to create something better or create something new. And that's what we see from our social entrepreneurs. You know, DCC has grown its business by nurturing and supporting entrepreneurial businesses to grow into sustainable organizations, and that's why supporting social entrepreneurs was a natural decision for us. We are committed to continuing that support, and indeed told Darren today, DCC will commit 525,000 euros over the next three years to continuing to support social entrepreneurs in Ireland.
Our relationship with Social Entrepreneurs Ireland has grown from strength to strength over the years. We're really proud to be the flagship sponsors of this wonderful award, and I know everyone is going to go away here this evening thinking really positively and being inspired by everything that we have seen here this evening. You know, the work the social entrepreneurs do is crucial to sorting out the significant challenges that we have in our country today, and we in DCC want to do our little bit to support Social Entrepreneurs Ireland in supporting you, the social entrepreneurs, to make a difference. You have that leadership, you bring the light, you are the spark to turn those ideas into action and to make a better future for Irish society. It's not just about financial support, it's not just about supporting these marvellous awards. The team in DCC give professional support, give guidance, give the benefit of our experience in building entrepreneurial businesses to the team in Social Entrepreneurs Ireland and to the social entrepreneurs. Many of the team in DCC have been very involved in the award selection process, many of our team also provide mentoring support to some of the past awardees. I do a little bit myself, and I know I speak for everyone in DCC when I say that this is a truly rewarding and humbling experience, and I'm sure I ask you to go that little bit further, to do that little bit more, be it financial support or be it providing your most precious commodity, some of your time and experience, to helping Social Entrepreneurs Ireland and to helping the social entrepreneurs in this room today.
None of this would happen, none of this, none of the work that goes on with the social entrepreneurs, if it wasn't for the fantastic team led by Darren in Social Entrepreneurs Ireland. Over the years we've seen the organization grow and develop into a truly great organization. You know, the leadership, the passion, the commitment, the willingness to adopt innovation, to change things, to help social entrepreneurs address the significant challenges that Ireland faces today. That's the work that social entrepreneurs do, and we want to support them in doing that work. The social entrepreneurs have the ideas, but Social Entrepreneurs Ireland helped turn those ideas into reality. So thank you, Darren, and all the team in Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, for all the good work. However, the most important people here this evening are the 2018 Social Entrepreneurs Ireland awardees. You are our heroes. You have demonstrated that you have that entrepreneurial flair, that you have that drive, that you have that passion, that you have the commitment to turn the ideas into action, to make a better future for Ireland. For that, we are truly grateful. You are all an inspiration to all of us here this evening. I know I will, and I'm sure I can speak for everyone in the room who will go away feeling inspired by everything we saw in all the eight awardees, all dealing with very serious social challenges that we have in our country today. We're truly grateful for all your hard work and dedication, and we in DCC are delighted to do our part in supporting Social Entrepreneurs Ireland and supporting you to build a better future for Ireland. Thank you.
