Welcome to this brand new edition of ET now on the go. This time I am in the city of Chennai and remember that this is a show where we get you India's most compelling business stories right from the ground up. Today I'm in the office of a business that actually went ahead and turned water engineering into a global powerhouse. Today I'm in conversation with Rajiv Mittal who is the chairman and managing director of VA Tech Wabag, who made the rare reverse acquisition where he went ahead and bought the company's global parent. So let's try and understand how did he do this? What gave him that conviction and today the company is a big global powerhouse. Thank you so much Mr. Mittal for joining us. Hi Fer. Yeah, you're a global powerhouse, right? And I think your basic focus has been the Middle East, the Africa region and also India and also Europe, I believe.
See, basically, you know, we have been a European origin company. 100 years back we started this as a European company. We are celebrating our centenary year. This year has been a centenary year which we have gone around the globe to various continents and basically giving thanksgiving functions. We have done that four: we have done in Vienna, in Riyadh, in Delhi and Chennai. Now Europe is a legacy which we are carrying and that's what I bought when I bought my erstwhile parent from Siemens. I bought the European unit. India is where I told you when I came from London, India was started and when we did a reverse acquisition, our European headquarters of Wabag became now Indian headquarters. So India, Chennai where we are today standing, this is a global headquarters for Wabag. So that's how India and Asia becomes very important and still 70% of our business comes from this region. Okay. We have three clusters: India is one with all this Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia. Then Middle East and Africa. We have been in Middle East and Africa for almost four decades. And we always had a technological excellence in that. We never took a total project EPC. We always took a technological portion of the project. But now we have started taking a full project and that's how the size of our projects are going up in this region. If you see Africa, we remain as top player in North Africa. Okay. If you see sub-Saharan Africa, more than three decades back, we built our first direct portable reuse plant which is still serving the people of Windhoek, which is a capital city of Namibia just above South Africa, and that remains a world-class reference and we have done many projects industrial and municipal in Africa which is Tanzania, Senegal, Zambia, Tunisia, you name it. Algeria, Libya, we have a lot of projects. Same thing is with Middle East. All the countries of GCC whether it's Oman, Bahrain, Saudi, Qatar, we are there and we have done projects there. Today that market is booming. There's a lot of orders especially Saudi is going for a huge revolution.
Yes. Yes. Today we see MEA, Middle East and Africa will be our next growth engine and I'll not be surprised in a few years it will compete with India cluster. Okay. So which means that that 70% that you had the Asia or India and Asia Pacific region revenue mix that is likely to tilt in the favor of Middle East and Africa. It's very likely or at least both will be 50/50. Both will be 50/50.
So tell me something, the fact that yes you just mentioned the fact the way how Saudi is booming, the way the orders are coming in, despite one of the order getting cancelled, I believe the government is trying to go ahead for a rebid for it. Are you going for the rebid?
Good good question and thanks. I'm sure your viewers will be very interested to hear that. Yes, it had come for rebid and you'll be happy to know we have rebid. Okay. And it is under evaluation and we are very bullish about it that we will again secure this order.
