Ajoy Chawla, MD of Titan Company, discussed the strong Q1 results, attributing growth to new product launches in watches and eyewear, which saw 21% growth, and retail expansion. He noted that the festive season shift may weaken September sales. Regarding Damas, he said the Middle East situation is unpredictable, with footfalls and ticket sizes declining, but its impact on consolidated results is less than 2%. He expressed confidence in the long-term growth story, stating that the company is on track with its Investor Day commitments, aiming for healthy double-digit growth in jewellery and other businesses.

Key takeaways

  1. Titan's eyewear business grew 21% in Q1, driven by higher ticket sizes and multi-item purchases.
  2. September sales may be weak due to Shradh and delayed festive season, with Durga Puja and Navratri in October.
  3. Damas business impact on consolidated results is less than 2%, with expansion plans paused due to Middle East uncertainty.
  4. Titan is on track with Investor Day targets, expecting healthy double-digit growth over the next three to four years.

Let's look at the results board room where we are joined today by Titan's MD Ajoy Chawla. We're going to talk to him about the results and also have a special discussion on the forward outlook. Ajoy ji, a very warm welcome to you. Thank you so much for giving your time to The Business. First of all, the results have been strong. For that, many congratulations to you. We will talk to you on several fronts. First and foremost, the results have been strong. Especially, the changes in customs duty, the benefits of the matu market — what are the big highlights of this quarter's results in your view?
Ajoy Chawla 0:42 ↗
The highlight is that this time we have seen very good growth across all businesses. Healthy double-digit growth, and particularly in watches and eyewear we have seen very good growth. In watches, because we have launched many new innovative products, there is a lot of customer interest. And of course, the web series has also had some impact, because we have seen that interest has increased a lot among customers in certain collections and age groups. But apart from this, the retail expansion we have done in the past year and in this quarter has also had an impact. There are premium retail outlets, and like Titan World, a new format has been launched. And Helios Lux new formats are being launched. And similarly, if we look at the eye care business, after many quarters, our growth has been consistently increasing. This quarter saw 21% growth. Ticket size and buyer — ticket size and buyer — meaning the average price in ticket size has also increased, and the number of items people are buying — multiples, multiple frames or multiple lens frames or sunglasses etc. — that has also had an impact. So in eye care also we are very happy that 21% growth has come. In analog watches, there is more than 21% growth, it's in the mid-20s. In variables, the corrections we have been taking we are continuing to make. Accordingly, we have rationalized the portfolio.
Interviewer 2:30 ↗
Absolutely, Ajoy ji, if we look at every front, the results have been strong. Revenue has seen a good increase, almost above 24%. Operating profit has grown by 10%. PAT is much above our estimate, around up 65%. As you also described, Q1 has been one of your strongest quarters. Now, because we are seeing more mass this time, looking at this, are you seeing some additional benefit in Q2? And how does the demand and environment look to you?
