Business alert. Arm muscled into the AI chip market. Arm, up until now, we're talking since 1990, has created blueprints for chip companies who took and customized them to their own chips. For the first time, Arm will design and sell its own semiconductor, the Arm AGI CPU. The stock initially fell yesterday on the announcement, but today jumping about 16 and two-thirds percent. Still up around 1% after the bell. Yet, Rene Haas will generate more than 15 billion in annual revenue in 5 years. The street took notice. Raymond James upgrades stock to outperform from market perform, other banks followed suit. As the semiconductor blueprint maker moves, how does this expect to take on a crowded and viciously competitive sector in the fast-growing AI world? Joining us now in his first interview on the revenue outlook, CEO Rene Haas. Arm has been churning out these designs. I need to know the idea of how this seismic shift came about. And Meta is your big partner to start with?
Thank you, Liz. Historic day for the company. Here it is, the Arm AGI CPU. This blueprint exists in a package, a chip we'll sell to customers. Meta, they are the lead partner on this. Short answer, they came to us. They said the market is underserved, we want to use Arm technology. And it really went from there. Short of it, they asked us to do it. It is the right time.
We have in our forecast, as you mentioned, we're projecting up to 15 billion dollars of revenue in 5 years. As you said, in the near-term about a billion of revenue. All that in that forecast is what we think we have supply for today. I think if we could get more supply of memory and other components, we could ship more. Right now that's the baseline.
[Laughter] There is a list item price and a Meta price. No. For you? These, maybe a better way to answer that question, an example to investors yesterday, how it changes the model for Arm in the IP licensing world. A chip that costs about 1,000 dollars, in the IP world we take 50 dollars on profit of that chip. We do compute subsystems, IP blocks, that is twice that number, about 100. With the chip at 50% gross margin, about 500. So, again using a 1,000 dollar artificial intelligence proxy, about 10 times gross profit selling chips versus individual pieces of IP.
What can it do? How is this different from the CPUs out there from AMD and Intel? I would have thought, by the way, that those are the primary CPU manufacturers. Yet, the whole sector, you are lifting the whole sector. The whole world today with the stocks.
You know, the thing that Arm has always been known for is low power. That power is also at no compromise to performance. That is what the DNA of the company is. We grew from mobile phones, that applies in the data center. People are starving for power that is 450 watts. Huge. As a result, people choose that technology when CPU demand is exploding. But to your question, it starts with low power. And people don't want to compromise on performance. We're 2x performance. And also that has been proven. That is a big reason that people are making this the product of choice.
I think the sales team did a bunch of phone calls, to be honest. We did talk about OpenAI, we talked about Cloudflare. We talked about a number of partners. They are signed up, not possible partners, they're customers who have designs that plan to use Arm in the data center. SAP, another big one.
