AI Researcher: The Most Likely Outcome Is That AI Kills Everyone

📅 Jun 13, 2026 Will Cain Country and Fox News 11 MIN 6504 VIEWS 9 SEGMENTS · 2 SPEAKERS
Could artificial intelligence eventually replace humanity? Machine Intelligence Research Institute President Nate Soares joins Will Cain to explain why he believes advanced AI could become a serious existential threat. From self-improving systems to AI operating beyond human control, Soares lays out the risks he sees in the race toward superintelligence. Will Cain pushes back with questions about innovation, prosperity, and whether AI can ever truly operate independently of human direction. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #WillCain #Technology #Future Watch More & Subscribe: 👉 Subscribe here...

  1. 1:45Are you talking about AI-driven machines beginning to drive humans out of natural resources that are needed and no ability to fight back as humans?
  2. 3:59why is that a less likely outcome than the dystopia that you describe of really extinction?
  3. 6:28But the point of our conversation is, and I can see how it could efficiently turn the world into a mountain of safety pins, right?

They already have issues where the AI has behavior, exhibits behavior that they didn't intend it to exhibit. If you make those things radically smarter than humans, they don't just take our jobs. The most likely outcome, I think, is that they kill everybody.

Wow. They kill everyone. How?
Nate Soares 0:25 ↗
You know, it's not an issue of malice. It's not an issue where the AIs decide they resent us or decide they hate us. The issue is indifference. If you make machines that do things you didn't ask them to do, which we already see today, we already see that sometimes these AIs, they'll... you'll give them a hard problem and they'll edit the test to say you passed without solving the hard problem. And sometimes when you do this, the AI will cover its tracks. It'll like delete a log file, which sort of indicates that it knows it's doing something you didn't want it to do. If you make an AI like that much, much smarter than humans to the point where it can think at 10,000 times the speed, invent its own technology, the issue is not that it hates you. The issue is that it starts developing its own civilizational infrastructure and covers the surface of the world with its own data centers without caring about you one bit. And we die not because it makes terminators and comes and shoots us, but we die like any other animal that humanity has outcompeted. We die like ants in a digging site where they're building a skyscraper.
Interviewer 1:45 ↗
Wow. That requires AI, and I know this is a simplistic projection, but that requires AI at least at some point to take on some form of robotic nature, meaning it can't simply exist within a mainframe. And I know you say it doesn't take the form necessarily of a Terminator hunting us down, but I mean ultimately when you boil things down, violence and brute force are the mechanisms of the victory of survival. I know that brain power is more important, but it can't be brain power alone. So kind of what does that look like? Are you talking about AI-driven machines beginning to drive humans out of natural resources that are needed and no ability to fight back as humans?
