BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico issued a scathing address on Saturday, declaring a national "oil crisis" and accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of intentionally damaging Slovakia’s energy security by halting Russian oil transit. Fico further condemned the joint U.S.-Israeli military operations in Iran, characterizing the strikes as a "gross violation of international law" that would have catastrophic consequences for global energy prices. In a significant move for national sovereignty, the Prime Minister also confirmed Slovakia’s rejection of revised World...

Good Saturday evening, dear friends. As part of the rubric, what did not fit on the press release, I am talking to you today for the 50th anniversary, and I have it so close to my heart that I would need twice as much space as usual.
To a certain extent, I'm surprised at how much opposition realizes what the leadership of Progressive Slovakia considers the essence of opposition politics: to damage and at all costs create an image of Slovakia as a burnt land. The opposition is supposed to set a critical mirror of government policy, but not to distort reality.
Then they look like weirdos and they are laughing. An excellent example is the unyielding effort of opposition children to push into the heads of Slovaks and Slovaks that we have the most expensive fuel perhaps in the whole world. This is their return.
They agree that the Ukrainian president stopped the transit of Russian oil on our side and intentionally to harm us, at the expense of which we have under the organs of the Union of Rights. They are happy to see that we have to declare a state of oil crisis and proceed to a national solution to the supply of oil, refineries and crude oil from the state reserves. That is why they are happy when the United States and Israel attack Iran.
NATO does not need an auxiliary school so that we know what impact the war conflict in Iran will have on the worldwide supply of oil. Catastrophic. Not only do we not want oil through the oil company because President Zelensky approved it, but there is also a problem around the world.
And our dear opposition, smiling like a fool after the first sex, walks through the media and press and roars to the government. The government says we have the most expensive fuel and oil in the world. First of all, we solve it.
And secondly, which is unusual in Slovak measures, some media have to direct the opposition that their claims about the prices of natural fuels in Slovakia are not true. On the contrary, we still have one of the cheapest fuels, and the government in cooperation with the refinery Slovnaft will do everything to keep up with our neighbors in V4, and they were definitely cheaper than in Austria. I would change my mind about Hammer if I were convinced of such a colossal lie by the journalists and even politically inclined.
Hammer is clearly not a joke to the opposition children and in spite of everything they do not even know this feeling. Dear friends, the fact that the opposition children have been robbed of the fate of Slovakia is evidenced by their rejection of the addition to the letter that I changed in the name of all parliamentary parties, both government and opposition, to send to the Ukrainian president. I came from the fact that Slovakia's energy security is above all party interests and that together we will rely on the president to stop harming Slovakia, to make it possible to visit the so-called damaged hydroelectric power plant in Ukraine to repair it together with EU money if it is really damaged, and to get a new supply of fuel to Slovakia and Hungary as soon as possible.
I repeat, fuel that we can take away. Why did they refuse to sign such essential Slovak requirements? Well, because they want to harm Slovakia and they know that the separation, renewal, and management of the company's oil affects Slovakia and understandably a huge difficulty in the first place in the existing government.
Someone could rightly say that you refuse to oppose, look for support in the European Union, which recognizes our right to receive Russian oil until the end of 2027. From the conversation I had with the chairman of the European Commission on Tuesday in Paris, it emerged that the European Commission is at least formally on our side. However, I do not feel enough pressure on President Zelensky.
How can it happen that in a situation when President Zelensky needs the European Union and its organs as salt, he is still asking for money and is demanding European perspective? The European Commission cannot overstep the mission of the inspection team to find out whether there was damage to the oil company and what needs to be done to prevent it. There is a simple line in the diplomatic dictionary for this.
Dear Volodymyr, do you want European money? This is how it will come to us. I am afraid that this line will never be told to President Zelensky or any of the deciding players in the European Union.
This style of communication is only used in the eyes of EU member states, which allow you to have sovereign opinions. Slovakia is not one of them, and I am proud of it. Moreover, money for the war against Ukraine will come even if Slovakia and Hungary were to break up.
Many people want to continue the war because they only care about the situation in the eyes of Russia and they don't even take into account that it is only about meaningless mutual killing of Slovaks which will not solve anything. Only a curse will bring consequences.
However, if we will hear statements in Europe which is so angry about the legal state that international law and similar mistakes are not applied to Iran and these mistakes will be gradually transferred to other countries, we will witness crazy extremes and gross violations of international law. From this point of view, it is very important that other voices of common sense will appear in the EU who understand that the strategy to support the war in Ukraine and weaken Russia in this way does not work. Today it was the Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever who proposed that EU member states should issue a mandate to negotiate with Russia on the end of the war in Ukraine. The Belgian prime minister admitted that the support of the war in Ukraine did not succeed in suppressing Russia economically and therefore it is the only right way to negotiate.
Such a voice of common sense should only be welcomed. If the EU as an institution asked for a mandate for peaceful negotiations, I would vote with both hands. I'm asking myself a question whether the EU after everything it has done will still have an interest in negotiating and whether it will consider it a reliable and strong enough partner.
And just as I warn against any attempts to negotiate a new peace treaty in 1938, any peace agreement must be created and closed only with the participation of Ukraine and with its consent. Dear friends, we have no choice but to continue fighting for the energy security of Slovakia. Although this sometimes brings hard statements and measures to the political leadership of Ukraine. At the same time, we must objectively evaluate the threat that President Zelensky and his surroundings are addressing to disobedient politicians in the EU.
The Ukrainian leadership did not have a problem to destroy the Nord Stream pipeline with explosives, but it is able to deliver violent solutions to disputes in a country it does not fight.
I am not surprised at all by the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that after the threats from President Zelensky and then from others, he is worried about his family. I will undoubtedly open this topic at the meeting of the European Council on Thursday in Brussels.
President Zelensky has crossed all the red lines and a legitimate question must arise. Whose interests are more important for the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council? Those of Ukraine or those interests that belong to EU member states?
It is very, very sad that we have to have such a discussion at all. And for these circumstances, dear friends, it is a bad joke that President Zelensky is one of the first laureates of the new European Council for the merits of the European Parliament. Dear friends, in the middle of the government, we refuse to accept a revision of the regulations of the World Health Organization.
I must thank not only the minister of justice and the minister of health who proposed such a rejecting proposal to the government. The ambassador of the national council and the commissioner of the government Peter Kottler has a permanently noticeable risk that for a sovereign country flows out of these regulations of the World Health Organization as well as on the date to which it is necessary to implement the revisions.
The regulations I'm now talking about regulate procedures during cross-border pandemics.
They create legal conditions, for example, for the possibility of compulsory vaccination, for limiting the movement of people, forced access to health products and other similar measures to the sovereignty of an individual state. It is strange that the European Union asked the member states to accept these revised regulations of the World Health Organization without a veto which we strictly denied in Slovakia.
The European Union does not have a veto on public health products. This right belongs to the individual states. And before the opposition children start whining again, it should be added that by March 1st this year, such revised regulations of the World Health Organization were rejected by 11 other countries. Have a nice Saturday evening and a peaceful Sunday.
