So, look, we've been talking about Ken Paxton and the troubles that Donald Trump is facing and the trouble that Ken Paxton's facing, and it's all sort of related because this all involves the midterm elections. Donald Trump is having right now to campaign in red states, solid red places, and he's also trying to take credit for things that are not his because he needs it right now in order to win. Yesterday, Donald Trump was in Maryland to celebrate a massive new investment in American shipbuilding. But one person was conspicuously missing. And guess what? That person was the person who actually sealed the deal for this. And that was Maryland Governor Wes Moore. Governor Wes Moore says his administration spent roughly a year helping to bring the project to Maryland and that he was initially scheduled to speak until Trump blocked him from taking the stage. The White House disputes that account, saying that the governor was invited to attend as a guest.
Really? Attend as a guest? The work that you did. He should be the one that's making the announcement. It's his deal. Instead, Donald Trump, of course, wants to take the credit for it. Governor Wes Moore is here. Governor, good morning to you. Thank you for joining us. So, I'm just going to speak. I'm just going to talk and I'm not going to let you speak and I'm just going to let you stand [laughter] right here, right now, and just look into the camera.
What the hell is that, Governor? Come on. What was that about? Why wouldn't he let you speak? Is there a count true that you were invited as a guest?
The president is deeply insecure when it comes to me. I do not understand. I, you know, I've decided that it is not worth the mental imagination to think about why his insecurity is so hard when it comes to me. But one thing I'm very proud of is we worked for a year on this deal. And it is massive. I mean, this is going to be, you know, close to a $4 billion capital investment. It's going to, you know, it's going to support about 14,000 jobs. It's one of the largest economic projects in our state's history. And we are very much slated and ready to make the announcement with the leadership of the company. They then said the president of the United States wants to join, and I said okay. And then we got the message that, and yeah, by the way, the president says you can't speak. What?
And that was how this thing happened. And so, but you know, one thing I was very clear on of it was this is a massive win for the people of Maryland. And it continues on to massive win. Our job growth rate in the state of Maryland is now nearly double the national average over the past six months. We've added over 17 billion dollars of private investments in the state of Maryland since I become the governor. We're proud of our momentum and we're not going to let the, you know, the president thinking that he can just come in on the final day and give a speech and take credit for it. We're not going to let that distract us from the job that we've got to do to bring economic opportunity to our folks.
What happened to states' rights, Governor? Republicans [laughter] are always talking about state rights, states' rights. And look, if this is an initiative from any, you know, from any state, any red state, Donald Trump would probably want to take credit for it. But have you ever in your years in public office seen anything like this that he comes in and tries to Bigfoot the person or the representative or the governor who actually got the deal done?
Well, and what's really wild is that, you know, when I talk about the development that's happened in Maryland over these past years, you know, I talk about it in partnership, right? It's in partnership with our local leadership and it's in partnership with the private sector and it's in partnership with philanthropy. It's in partnership with the people. I think leaders are ones who actually bring people into the tent. Leaders are not the ones who pull the tent in to just cover them, right? And that's the issue that I think we continue to have, you know, like, you know, are we thankful that the federal government want to serve as partners in this? 100%. You know, but I don't think that Donald Trump really understands what the word partnership actually means and I think that has become the larger issue.
Yeah, there's something very selfish about it or perhaps, and look, I know you don't want to linger on this too long. I don't want to either. Let me just say this. I think people are smart enough to know, especially those who are in Maryland who got this deal done, that they're paying attention. But nationally, I think maybe, maybe he's nervous that you're going to run or something. I have no idea. I'm not going to ask if you're going to run. That's a whole another thing. Maybe he's nervous about that. But I do think the people of Maryland know and they know how silly this president is to try to do something like that. Can I ask you though,
And I tell you, I mean, honestly, I think about, you know, if you just look at just the recent months, right? No, we stood there and we announced, you know, announced together that AstraZeneca made a, you know, historic $2 billion investment in Frederick and Gaithersburg that supported 2,600 jobs. We saw early this year the new Sphere is going to be coming to Prince George's County, Maryland, that is projected to create about 8,000 jobs, about one and a half billion dollars of economic development. Samsung Biologics, we just announced, is creating their first manufacturing facility in the United States, and they're creating it in the state of Maryland. That just yesterday. Just yesterday that, you know, when the president decided not to let me to speak at the,
Well, that's why he's scared. You're giving me the reasons now why he's just delivering. You're doing such good work. He's like, 'Okay.' He's basically, he's like looking. We're in the classroom right now, Governor. I got my pencil and he's like this [laughter].
And actually, and here's the thing, Don. When, and while we're incredibly thankful to Enduro, and this was a year-long competitive process. We competed against other states for this and Maryland won in a competitive process. But when the president decided that I don't want the governor to speak and I'm going to graciously allow him to attend as a guest in his own state, you know what I did? I, you know, I did, I was like, you know what, all good. So what we did was we just went to another part of Truist Atlantic yesterday and during the same time I announced an expansion of McLaren because McLaren just announced another $11 million investment in the state of Maryland. So I'm like, you know what, I'll just go ahead and keep doing the people's work. I'll keep on bringing economic opportunity. I'll keep on making sure we're building big deals and making sure we build an economy that works for everybody and I will let the president go and bring the clown, bring the circus to town.
That's some Jedi mind tricks. That was good right there. That was good that you did that. But look, I got to, so, and look, congratulations. But by the way, real quickly before I move on, did you say the Sphere, like the Sphere in Vegas?
Like the Sphere in Vegas. Like, so if y'all seen a Sphere, it is. So the Sphere, they have now announced they're going to do one in Abu Dhabi, right? And the third one that they are going to do, the first one in the US besides Vegas will be in Prince George's County, Maryland. Another process that we just won.
