So we're here in Singapore at the Token 2049 2026 edition. Today we have the special participation of Gracy Chen. How's it going?
Hello. So Gracy, the weather is great, I'm feeling very well. So yes, I'm doing great. Thank you.
Thank you for inviting us today to this year's anniversary of Bitget. And I would like to start off this quick interview with a question regarding our region, which is: what's your take on the Latam market, the Latin American market, and what things do you think we can improve as a region to grow in the Web3 space?
Yeah. So if you look at, for example, Chainalysis reports where they study all the regions and look at some on-chain activity, I think Latin America has a lot of potential, and Latin America generally holds at least 10% of the global trading volume. This is a region that a lot of global exchanges, including ourselves, are trying to tap into, but we are still working on it, not being super successful compared to some local exchanges. And as a region, I would say financial literacy is a common topic for anything related to crypto, right? Crypto is at the intersection of finance and technology. And I understand that in Latin America, although there are countries such as Brazil, which may have more institutional inflow, most of the Latam countries do not have as strong financial literacy as, for example, the United States, which is a nearby country. So education and just more applications for people's daily use need to be improved, I guess.
Education, especially for you guys as KOLs and influencers, can make a huge impact over there. So I do want to encourage you guys to produce more content in different languages that Latin American users or audiences may use. I'm aware that there are a lot of different languages, but very much within the Latin language trade. But basically, I also want to know Spanish, and that's what we are doing. But basically, like educational content in maybe Spanish, maybe in Portuguese, like all these different languages should hopefully be helpful. But another trend that I saw is that a lot of Latin American countries are using crypto without knowing it's crypto. Like, maybe remittance is a good application. A lot of people have cross-border remittance needs, and they are using stablecoins in their daily lives, especially in certain countries where, for example, the inflation rate is very high and they have a rather weak fiat currency. So USDT and stablecoins are used extensively. So, I think that's a good starting point already. But in general, this region, the audience, the users, we do welcome everyone; and hopefully, when they start trading, they are also aware of the risks, how to use the different products, like what does it mean, for example, tokenized equity, how is it different from normal equity, something like that. Like, the fundamental educational content should be there, and we do want to disclose, like, all this information to our audience, to our users.
A perfect take, I would say. Yes, education is the number one thing that we should take really good care of if we want to grow as a market. Right? My second question is regarding, obviously, the universal exchange. Bitget, we are aware that it is the biggest one out there, the biggest universal exchange. And so, do you think this is a new trend for the future of crypto, let's say, or is this something that exchanges should start to take a look at?
Yeah, I think it is the future, and it's probably not the future anymore. It is the present. Yeah, it is the present already. Bitget started to build the UEX more than a year ago. I remember it was our seventh-year anniversary when I was writing my CEO letter that I mentioned and came up with this term, UEX, universal exchange. It was born from the idea that, previously, crypto exchanges were generally categorized into two categories: CEX, centralized exchange, and DEX, decentralized exchange. And in 2025, we are already using the centralized infrastructure to onboard a lot of decentralized wallets. For example, if a user just puts in a contract address of a cryptocurrency, they can start trading it on Bitget. So that is the sort of centralized plus decentralized integration. And then we said, 'Oh, then calling ourselves just a centralized exchange may not be very accurate.' And also, we have a lot of TradFi assets that we have been onboarding for more than a year now, so UEX is a better term. Because it covers more universally valuable assets and also it is a term that nobody is using, and we just want to put ourselves into this category. And again, this is not just a marketing term; it is a very important strategy change or pivot in our company. If you look at the Bitget app maybe a year and a half ago, all our asset classes were crypto, but today, of course, the asset coverage has expanded. But at the same time, if you look at the first page of our user interface, TradFi is right there, which means I am directing a lot of our user volume to TradFi because it is a strategic change. It's not just a marketing term that we are tapping into, so I think that is an important shift that this industry is observing or experiencing. And again, we actually saw this trend much earlier, more than a year ago. We have already listed some tokenized equities, and just in the last couple of months, we have seen many of our competitors doing something similar. I'm glad that we get to lead this RWA trend, and I think this is not a short-term trend. This is actually a long-term trend that we will continue seeing for maybe a couple of years.
Yes. I think this has been the sector of Web3 with the most growth within the last couple of months. Right. Regarding tokenization, what do you think is the next step in our sector, specifically for exchanges? Right? Because Bitget has TradFi, which includes tokenized stocks, and it opens up to more than just tokenized stocks; it's also tokenized commodities, forex, and pre-IPO stocks. I see. And what would you say is the next step regarding tokenization for Bitget, or even beyond Bitget?
