Questions asked in this interview

6
  1. 0:30... from being at Zeta Live last year to this year and seeing how Zeta Live has 3x'd in just a year, all the things you've done, all the partnerships you've announced, and then four more today, how are you feeling about this event right now?
  2. 3:28Are you waging war on legacy SaaS?
  3. 6:14When can we expect the fourth?
  4. 10:15What are you guys trying to accomplish here with the Athena Inference?
  5. 14:02I'm sure we've all seen this. The chip?
  6. 17:22So, in closing, how does next year's Zeta Live top this one?
David Steinberg 0:00 ↗
RTFEs are now fully deployed with theirs. We're going into calls with them on a daily basis. It's fantastic, but we're working with a manufacturing partner who's willing to put up all of the capital to build the chip. Let me be clear. It's not going to affect our free cash flow at all. I'm telling you, if you think the speed that you're seeing with AIM is faster today, the chip simulations are insane.
Interviewer 0:30 ↗
Let's kick it off. [clears throat] Let's do it. Let's do it. Let's do it. David, I got to say, from being at Zeta Live last year to this year and seeing how Zeta Live has 3x'd in just a year, all the things you've done, all the partnerships you've announced, and then four more today, how are you feeling about this event right now?
David Steinberg 0:51 ↗
I mean, first of all, so it's funny because normally, like, we're in a smaller space, and I would always feel the energy. This is a very big space, and I've been like backstage with a bunch of different people, and it's been great, but I finally had to say to everybody, I'm like, is this like going okay? Cuz you can't see, like, I'm not joking. And they're like, oh no, like, this is going insane. And I was like, okay, great. And then we had to go to our next meeting, and I said, I want to walk by the lunch area. I mean, there are freaking thousands of people here. Like...
Interviewer 1:30 ↗
True.
David Steinberg 1:30 ↗
Thousands. It's wall to wall. And I'll tell you guys the truth. We booked this space, and I was like, how the hell are we going to fill this space? Last night, we had to take the restaurant next door to put some people in because we were so far over the legal capacity numbers for the event. And it's just been great. Listen, I think it's a credit to the business. I think it's a credit to the team we've built. I think it's a credit to the products we've built. I think it's a credit to the problems we solve for customers. But it's been, you know, thus far an amazing day. I would tell you I'm about half done. So I've got a long way to go though.
Interviewer 2:19 ↗
Yeah, trust me, this is my first Zeta Live, and fantastic event. There's a lot of people here. I can attest to that. But David, I want to ask, you know, I've been anticipating Athena OS for quite some time.
David Steinberg 2:32 ↗
We've noticed that. We've been aware. I think the viewers have noticed it.
Interviewer 2:35 ↗
To give you credit for that.
David Steinberg 2:36 ↗
Thank you.
Interviewer 2:36 ↗
I had one point I had one of my lawyers ask me if I was talking to you. I'm like, no.
David Steinberg 2:41 ↗
No.
Interviewer 2:41 ↗
No, he just picks up the breadcrumbs.
David Steinberg 2:43 ↗
Yeah, exactly. I'm not. I'm not.
Interviewer 2:45 ↗
Not on everything. You've got some things wrong.
David Steinberg 2:48 ↗
True, you know, I am human. I am human.
Interviewer 2:49 ↗
But on that topic of Athena OS, I want to take this opportunity to ask you something a little bit more direct.
Hey guys, it's Nick. I just want to take a moment and thank you, the viewer, for your support and my sponsor, StockAnalysis.com. Stock Analysis is literally my go-to site for everything stock research, from balance sheet to fundamental charts and quarterly calls. I pretty much live on this site, guys. Now, it's free to use, but for my audience, the wonderful people at Stock Analysis wanted to give you 10% off their Pro plan, which essentially gives you access to their entire site for $5 a month. Yeah, it's really affordable. Now, check out the link below. It's in the description if you're interested. Let's get back to the video.
David Steinberg 3:27 ↗
Right.
Interviewer 3:28 ↗
Are you waging war on legacy SaaS?
David Steinberg 3:33 ↗
I've never thought of product evolution as waging war. I think of it more as an evolution. You know, they're Cro-Magnons and we're Homo sapiens, right? And they're going to be disintermediated by what we do if they don't start to do similar things. I think the challenge that a lot of them have, and that's obviously not on SaaS, but it's on companies that provide an operating system, right? Most operating systems today, yes, are sold on a SaaS basis, and most of them, from my vantage point, have no data enrichment. They have no AI at the core. So, when you look at our platform, you've got AI at the core. You've got the Zeta Data Cloud informing with their data, and then every single decision makes the next decision smarter. And I was just down, I had to do a press briefing, which is still a little weird for me. But went down and did a press briefing, and they were like, 'How did this, how did you get here?' And I said, 'Well, first, our customers grew on us. Customers kept saying, 'This is great. We have massive demand for skirts in the northeast of the United States, but we don't have any skirts there.''
Interviewer 4:47 ↗
Mhm.
David Steinberg 4:48 ↗
So, we'd be running marketing, and there wouldn't be anything there. So, it was very logical to say, 'Well, why don't we take demand based on where the geography is and make recommendations on where inventory should live?' But, once you do that, what's the next step? Well, what do clients want that you're not currently manufacturing?
Interviewer 5:09 ↗
Mhm.
David Steinberg 5:11 ↗
Right? And then, once you manufacture it, where does it need to go? Once it gets there, how do you get people to buy it? All of that comes from one centralized system. And if you look at all the different use cases, we're doing a number of cybersecurity use cases, we're doing fraud detection use cases, we're doing use cases around all these different things. When you think of Zeta, our big differentiation, and obviously our people are unbelievable. I mean, I actually got a little bit choked up the other day doing our town hall with the quality of people that are currently betting their families' lives on the decisions we're making at this point. It's really humbling. But what I would tell you is data and artificial intelligence as core to the application layer. And you can take it anywhere. Yes, started with marketing, CRM, retention, added business intelligence, but the Athena OS is the future of our business.
Interviewer 6:14 ↗
So, we know that with the partnership with Palantir, three deals have been done. When can we expect the fourth?
David Steinberg 6:23 ↗
Uh, it's moving fast. I mean, it's going to be, I mean, it's going to be double digits, so this is, I mean, listen, as I've said publicly, they are one of the most amazing companies I've ever interacted with. RTFEs are now fully deployed with theirs. We're going into calls with them on a daily basis at this point and working. And Elias Davis, who's been my partner on this, who works directly with Alex, and is one of the most talented people I've ever worked with. We're like attached at the hip. I mean, he's been here all day running around. He's on a panel today as well. I mean, but just to point out the obvious, how unbelievably impressive was Alex Karp this morning.
Interviewer 7:09 ↗
Oh, yeah, that was a great conversation.
David Steinberg 7:10 ↗
Yeah.
I was so sorry we couldn't put it out. I think it's going on YouTube in the next day or two, so that'll be great. And my understanding is there was a bit of a cutout of the voice for the X feed for a little bit. I saw that during a quick break. My understanding is we're correcting that as well. We're going to put a full copy up. My goal, of course, is to get that up today where you'll have the entire opening.
Interviewer 7:35 ↗
I mean, that's great. So, obviously, you and Alex have this really dynamic relationship, and you could see that on stage. It was really...
David Steinberg 7:41 ↗
By the way,
Interviewer 7:42 ↗
Forget about like him saying, if you look at his quote in the press release, I don't know if you saw that.
David Steinberg 7:47 ↗
You know, it is one of their great honors to work with Zeta. Like, [laughter] dude, thank you. I mean, that was my epitaph until he said, 'David Steinberg is really funnier in private than he is in person.' And the truth is I would tell you that I have a number of like hyper-successful firms. Like, hyper. And I think every one of them would tell you that their favorite attribute about me is my humor. It's just sort of, it's gotten me through a dyslexic ADD childhood. It got me through difficult circumstances of most of my life. But it was really... And by the way, Alex is freaking hilarious. He might be one of the funniest guys I hang out with. And like, we've been together. Like, and I'm telling you, we just laugh. And it's just so... He's a very, very amazing person.
Interviewer 8:46 ↗
David, I want to take a moment to circle back to Athena OS. We know Athena was free to use. Is Athena OS adopting a very similar pricing model, or is...
David Steinberg 8:55 ↗
No, there'll be a SaaS subscription fee.
Interviewer 8:57 ↗
I assume that.
David Steinberg 8:58 ↗
Yeah. It will be a SaaS subscription fee. It'll be our first real direct AI monetization as a company. But let me be clear. I think it's also going to drive massive adoption, massive utilization, and massive deployment.
Interviewer 9:14 ↗
And now you guys are getting into Athena Inference. And I had the pleasure to go downstairs and listen in on...
David Steinberg 9:19 ↗
Did you get in?
Interviewer 9:20 ↗
Yes.
David Steinberg 9:20 ↗
I mean, how many people were waiting outside the room?
Interviewer 9:23 ↗
We had to wait outside. The fire marshal said that we couldn't have any more.
David Steinberg 9:25 ↗
They were... Can I just tell you? People were bitter.
Interviewer 9:29 ↗
Yeah, it was like I was upstairs and I'm getting messages from people, 'I can't get into the product roadmap.'
David Steinberg 9:35 ↗
Mhm. It's like, sorry. Last year for the product roadmap, we had people sitting on the floor. You were, I think you were there. Remember? This year the room was twice as big.
Interviewer 9:46 ↗
Yeah.
David Steinberg 9:46 ↗
It's a big room.
