Panos Panay, Amazon's Senior Vice President of Devices, Alexa & Leo, said the new Alexa tablets are 'completely new' and fundamentally different from Fire tablets. He said the number one request from Fire customers was for more apps, and the new devices run Android with the full Play Store. Panay emphasized the hardware design, including the NanoMatte screen that 'feels like the pixels are on top of the screen,' the weight, center of gravity, and stereo speakers. He said Alexa is integrated throughout the product, accessible at any time, and can act on what's on the screen, such as identifying products and finding where to buy them. He also highlighted productivity features like a keyboard and mouse, and the power of LLMs for programming from anywhere. Panay confirmed the tablets offer a distraction-free Kindle reading mode and a Dynamic Tab for Amazon entertainment.

Thanks to Amazon for sponsoring today's video. Well, Amazon just launched three new Alexa tablets, and I had the opportunity to sit down with Panos Panay, the Senior Vice President of Devices and Services at Amazon — I mean, the big boss. And I had the opportunity to ask him a bunch of questions, but the most important one was: what makes the Alexa tablet different from the Fire? So I'm going to break it down into five different things that I think you really need to know.
Alexa integration is everywhere on these tablets, and I know you're probably wondering what that really means, right? But if you take a quick look at the tablet, you can see that we have Alexa right here at the bottom, so you have quick access to her. Whenever you want to ask something or search for something, she's right there so you can get started. But here's where it gets really fun. Let's say you're watching something and you want to buy it. Alexa, what is that power bank? Now it's checking my screen.
Alexa 0:47 ↗
That's an Anker power bank with a smart screen. It looks like one of their newest models that shows real-time charging information, battery percentage, and temperature on that screen.
Reviewer 0:56 ↗
That's great. Because you can ask all kinds of questions based on what you're watching. And that's great because then you can even continue by saying, 'Alexa, can you open the product page for this power bank?'
Alexa 1:07 ↗
Let me look that up for you. Here's the Anker Prime Power Bank with the smart screen you're watching.
Reviewer 1:11 ↗
So, as you saw, it can check what's on your screen and you can ask questions about it. And if you wanted to take it a step further, you could even say something like, 'Add it to my shopping cart.' Amazing. What's crazy is that you can go a step beyond that. With Alexa Plus, you can have Alexa have a live session based on what's on my screen. What are those headphones that are there in the middle?
Alexa 1:31 ↗
Those are Beats 360 headphones with bright yellow ear cups and a black headband.
Reviewer 1:37 ↗
I did a random math equation. It looks good here.
Alexa 1:40 ↗
Yes, it's correct.
Reviewer 1:41 ↗
Now, what if I wanted to multiply that by 46?
Alexa 1:43 ↗
Multiplying 9,746,870 by 46 gives 448,356,020.
Reviewer 1:54 ↗
Can you imagine kids doing homework with this in real time and asking where they went wrong? It could actually be pretty useful. Yes, now you could even use these live sessions to help you with video games. I don't know what kind of gamer you are, maybe you're a beginner and don't know what you're doing. That could be very useful. It means you can get real-time help in a game if you don't know what buttons to press or where to go. And if you were going to look it up on YouTube or something anyway, this will be a much faster option. Look, some gamers might judge, but beginners need help too. Like you, you would need help.
Definitely. So, give me the tablet. Yeah, I'm not going to do that. Yeah, give it to me.
That kind of experience is useful across the whole tablet, no matter what you're doing, whatever is on your screen. Let's say you're reading something and you don't quite understand it. Just say, 'Alexa, what does that first paragraph on the second page mean?'
