Don Lemon discussed the race to replace Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary, noting that Laura Loomer and George Santos have reportedly put their names forward, which he dismissed as clownish and concerning. He highlighted Santos's plan to bar reporters who publish 'fake news' from the White House, a power the press secretary does not have. Lemon also addressed Leavitt's ouster, citing her poor performance on Fox & Friends where she failed to defend the administration's investigation into Ilhan Omar. He referenced prediction markets showing Abdul El-Sayed at 69% in a Michigan Senate race. Lemon questioned the discrepancy in Omar's financial disclosures, mentioning a jump from $18,000-$95,000 to $30 million, and noted potential citizenship issues. He expressed shock that Katie Miller, Stephen Miller's wife, might be in the running, and listed other potential candidates like Anna Kelly and Scott Jennings.

  1. 0:41If we have it, can we put that up?
  2. 5:06You would think Sean Hannity, being an evening host, would be a little bit tougher, right?
  3. 6:31Tim, can you tell us, you have a reaction to the raid and the investigations that are going on?
  4. 8:34But I think it's one of the easiest jobs in this administration because all you have to do is get on TV and lie, lie, lie through your teeth and do it well. Okay?
  5. 10:16So clearly, Karoline, is that correct?
  6. 11:56You're not shocked by that, are you?

El-Sayed's policies are fair game. His record is fair game. His name and his fate aren't scandals. And now somebody new is going to have to stand at that White House podium and explain Trump's latest performance. Which brings us to the race to replace Karoline Leavitt. I want to bring in our White House correspondent, our Washington D.C. correspondent, Daniel Grimes. And Daniel joins... Oh, Daniel, wait. I thought you were at the Capitol because... well, at the White House, because that's where these people want to be. You have Laura Loomer. You've got George Santos reportedly throwing their names into the mix. Really? A far-right provocateur and a convicted felon. Is this serious?
Daniel Grimes 0:41 ↗
That is right, Don. I'm heading over there in actually an hour because President Trump's going to be heading out of the White House. So I'm going to hope to ask the president a question. We can see if we can get another question with him. But you're right, Laura Loomer, George Santos threw their hat into the ring to replace Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary. In fact, and I sent it to our producer, I'm not sure if we have it, but George Santos actually put out his plan of how he would navigate the position if he's chosen. If we have it, can we put that up? He said on day one he would meet with every person, every reporter covering the White House just to make sure he established those relationships. Yep, there it is. And then, oh, that's a picture of George Santos. And then after meeting with every person, he would make sure that he builds those relationships. But if you publish what he called fake news, then you would be barred from the White House. Of course, the White House press secretary doesn't have the power to do that, but alas.
Don Lemon 1:43 ↗
Okay. Well, George Santos is a clown. Come on. And now, come on. All right. Can we take him down? And then who's the other one? So, Laura Loomer. What? Laura Loomer? Really?
Daniel Grimes 1:54 ↗
Laura Loomer, who is arguably even more of a clown than George Santos. I'm not sure that they can compete over who's the bigger clown.
Don Lemon 2:05 ↗
Yes, that is true.
She's just a bigot clown. Not just, but you know what I'm saying.
Daniel Grimes 2:09 ↗
Yeah. I mean, and she continues to attack Angie Nixon day after day. I think she just published another attack with Angie Nixon today or yesterday when she was with friends of the show, Maxwell Frost. So she is an open racist bigot. But again, I think the bigger problem... I can't even for sure say to you, Don, that neither of these will be chosen. And I think it is sad that we are in 2026 and we have a president where it is not too far out to say that he could actually choose a man who was convicted, George Santos, or Laura Loomer, who is an open bigot and a racist, as his press secretary. I think that speaks volumes about the current administration. I could speak to you about the more serious contenders for the job, but again, I can't rule out the fact that either of these two loons could potentially take the role. I also have some new reporting about Karoline Leavitt, by the way, and how she was ousted.
Don Lemon 3:13 ↗
What do you mean?
Daniel Grimes 3:13 ↗
So, I also sent this in the chat. Let me know if you have it, Noel. After that Fox & Friends, her going on Fox & Friends in the morning on Friday morning, that was the official kind of nail in the coffin for her. President Trump saw that performance and he was embarrassed, saw it and said this is something that cannot represent me. She can't even articulate why the president is going after Ilhan Omar. We all know that, you know, you talked about that investigation into Ilhan Omar and her documents when she was a child. Well, she was on Fox & Friends on Friday and she couldn't defend the administration's investigation of the congresswoman, and the president saw that and thought she can't represent me. Now, there is reporting out there in Politico that Susie Wiles is the one that pushed for that. My sources tell me that it was actually Karoline Leavitt herself that she was pushing forward after that disastrous press conference, that she was the one continuing to push for some sort of either Fox News or conservative outlet interview so that she could clear her name ahead of any second press conference.
Don Lemon 4:20 ↗
Look, whether you like it or not, the prediction markets have really become more accurate than the polling many times. I've been looking at the polling in Michigan and I've been checking out the prediction markets as well. For example, over at Kalshi, they've got Abdul El-Sayed at 69% and Mike Rogers at 33%. Okay? And that's a Senate race there. 69% and 33%. Now, those aren't poll numbers. That's where the prediction market stands right now. And it can change. We're just two weeks out. And this is one of those races that I'm going to watch very closely. You can follow it. If you want to follow it at Kalshi, you can. Kalshi.com or their app. And you don't have to trade anything. Wait a minute. So it wasn't the Hannity interview? I thought the Hannity interview was more damaging than that.
Daniel Grimes 5:06 ↗
No, apparently this was the final nail in the coffin. I mean, again, if we can go to it, I believe 3:21. So 3:21 in that interview where she starts talking about Ilhan Omar, you can see just what the president was disappointed by with her. Because again, this should in theory be a friendly interview. I mean, this is Fox & Friends. You would think Sean Hannity, being an evening host, would be a little bit tougher, right? But Fox & Friends, the morning show, should be the fluff interview.
Don Lemon 5:38 ↗
Yeah, but I thought Sean Hannity was... I thought she embarrassed herself thoroughly. It was a face plant on Sean Hannity. Let's listen to this. If you have it queued up, go for it. Journal is reporting, Karoline, that the president and the administration through the Department of Justice plans on stripping Ilhan Omar's citizenship because they're saying that it was fraudulent.
Katie Leavitt 6:00 ↗
Well, the public reporting shows there's an ongoing investigation and the Department of Justice is handling that, and the president is aware of it and has mentioned it, but that is a Department of Justice issue.
Don Lemon 6:11 ↗
Yeah. He said he wasn't involved in that at all. So, are these reports just false?
Katie Leavitt 6:16 ↗
Well, the public reporting shows that there is an ongoing investigation, so I would defer to the Department of Justice on.
Don Lemon 6:22 ↗
Here's Ilhan Omar's husband when confronted with possible deportation of his wife. Watch.
Reporter 6:31 ↗
Tim, can you tell us, you have a reaction to the raid and the investigations that are going on?
Tim Mynett 6:35 ↗
My wife came here when she was 12 years old, a child war refugee. No concern.
Don Lemon 6:42 ↗
All right. Do you have a response to that? He says, I know he evidently is being investigated reportedly as well as other people in her family.
