“In the high inflationary environment specific to our country that we are passing through, the monetary policy we follow affects every sector. With interest rates around 50% against inflation around 22%, a gap of 28 points has emerged. An operating capital deficit is starting to form to cover this gap. About Hakan Aran

Hakan Aran, General Manager and board member of Türkiye İş Bankası, has been active in public appearances discussing the bank's strategy, economic conditions, and technology initiatives. In 2026 interviews, he addressed inflation-fighting efforts, stating that year-end inflation expectations had moved to the 27-28 percent band and that normalization could occur by May 2026, with credit growth restrictions possibly lifted within the year. He also spoke about the bank's focus on strengthening its equity capital and regaining its position as Turkey's largest private bank by equity size, while noting challenges such as rising non-performing loan inflows and the burden of tight monetary policy on bank balance sheets. Aran has also highlighted the bank's ventures beyond traditional banking. He discussed a strategic partnership transferring 80% of Bayındır Health Group hospitals to Acıbadem, with the bank retaining a 20% stake and board representation. In health technology, he described a collaboration with Harvard University and Professor Gökhan Otamışlıgil to establish a company called Enila, aimed at preventing sudden deaths through early detection of cellular changes, a mission he said originated from former general manager Adnan Bali. He has also promoted the bank's entrepreneurship programs, including Workup, which he said has received over 15,000 startup applications and graduated 108 ventures, and emphasized the importance of eliminating Turkey's external technological dependence through education and long-term investment in science.
