Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Dina Powell McCormick, president and vice chairman, Meta, and the honorable Dr. Ethan Klein, US chief technology officer.
Yeah. Well, we're thrilled to be here. Obviously, we talk so much about public-private partnerships. We have a government representative, leading industry player. You served on Meta's board for a year. You're now in the role of president and vice chair. We've heard a lot of announcements from you towards this new division on Meta compute and investments of billions of dollars here in the United States. What's the strategy there? What should we envision in terms of the kind of partnership models that you're viewing to see success?
Sure. Well, first let me just say a huge thank you to everyone in this room. I was reading about many of the participants, and if we really think about this race that we are all working so hard on, and we think about other times in America's history, whether it was the Industrial Revolution, or frankly when the country came together during World War II, it really feels like that kind of a moment again. But the difference is those were big movements that took 10, maybe 20 years. If we're, you know, you're smart enough in this room to know we're talking 3 to 5 are pretty important. And it's one of those things where truly not one sector can do it alone, and the government can't do it alone, and the private sector can't do it alone. But I think the untold heroes are so many of you in this room that are working every single day on the innovations that really fuel the compute needs of hyperscalers, the energy needs across the country. And in the 9 weeks that I've been in this job, I have learned a great, great deal.
Mark Zuckerberg actually set up a new division for us called Meta Compute. I co-head it with our global head of infrastructure and our VP of compute that really works closely with our AI lab. Alex Wang leads that team. And what has been interesting is that when you have such a big partnership with such a huge amount of CAPEX, you really have to go across the company. And so this is the unit that thinks about the capital that's needed, the infrastructure and deployment strategy, and the talent, because so much of this is based on the kind of human talent that you need. And so we, like many of our peers, have a daunting task to invest that capital in a relatively short period of time in the most efficient way possible, and frankly in the most effective way possible. And for us, you know, we were proud yesterday we launched on our journey of models. We launched Meta Muse Spark. And part of what is, I think, exciting about this model for us is that it really encapsulates what superintelligence means, that it's very much about people, not just products. Empowering people, whether they're small business owners, whether they are the workforce of America who are literally building the infrastructure today, and whether it's, you know, again, people in this room that we hope use our model, use our tools. And I'll close just by saying we also feel a daunting responsibility. Between all of our platforms, we reach more than 3.5 billion people a day. And we reach more than 200 million small business owners that actually run their businesses on our platform. And so again, back to that, how are we investing these technologies to empower people to reach their potential? And that's what we've been really focused on.
Yeah. Now, that's wonderful to hear, and I think exactly to that point on the public-private partnerships. Obviously, over the past few days you guys have heard a lot about some of these truly, you know, national-level efforts. Genesis mission being one that we're thrilled to see how much Department of Energy has taken the lead on, leveraging the resources that we have on federal lands to make that available for co-location of data centers to drive the AI compute workloads that we need for the federal government, but also for private sector and for American small businesses. And being able to really leverage those kind of unique resources that we have on the federal side, from the $200 million that we spend to the $700 million plus that the private sector spends, we need to do a good job of integrating that together, of partnering together. And I think from the White House perspective, that's something that we've been thrilled to see is just a deeper integration across the people, across the infrastructure, and across the science and technology challenges.
Um, just to maybe touch on another topic here. You were instrumental in the Pittsburgh energy and innovation summit last year that President Trump was at and a lot of folks from the administration, which was, I think, a wonderful opportunity just to bring together global leaders, hyperscalers, government officials, investors in the space who are powering the AI revolution together, as we noted. Why is that a model for other cities and states as they're thinking about kind of the nexus of energy and AI innovation?
