About Cindy Miller
In a 2014 interview, Cindy Miller, then President of Europe at UPS, discussed gender diversity in the transport industry. She described the sector as "certainly a male dominated industry" but stated there is "a tremendous amount of opportunity for both men and women." Miller noted that UPS has long believed "it doesn't matter if it's male or female; if you can do the job, the end goal is to provide great service."
Miller attributed the company's success to its workforce, stating, "We don't make anything at UPS; our secret sauce is our people." She said UPS provides "great opportunity for men and women" and has programs that help keep women in the workplace by offering flexibility and considering family responsibilities.

The other thing though, as far as attracting new talent, I love what they do here from within. I won't get into this at this moment, maybe a little bit later, but transport seems to be an industry dominated by men. Is that true?

Sure it is. Transport, it is certainly moved from being trucking industries and railways and certainly traditional male-dominated type jobs. But when you look deeper than that, especially in today's economies and in today's world, there's just a tremendous amount of opportunity for both men and women. And I've been fortunate enough to be in the industry for over 25 years, and I'm quite fond of it, I must say. UPS has believed for many years. I started 25 years ago with UPS as a driver, driving a truck in the streets of a small town outside of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. And even way back then, UPS understood that as a network company that really has to be focused purely on taking care of our customers, it doesn't matter if it's male or female. If you can do the job, the end goal is to provide great service. So way back when, UPS was very involved in diversity before it had the catchphrase 'diversity.' And we continue today, realizing that there's just a tremendous amount of opportunity for men and women. And I'm very excited about the amount of people that we have and the women that we continue to provide opportunity for around the world. We don't make anything at UPS. We don't have our secret sauce. Our secret sauce is our people. Good people, great people, people concerned about others, people that can communicate well and work well with each other. And just as it is outside of work, it takes a diverse group in order for the message and for the right balance and the right focus. And we see that as well within UPS, and we provide great opportunity for men and women. And I think we've got a lot of programs that really help focus on keeping women in the workplace, providing them some flexibility, taking into consideration a lot of the family responsibilities. And it's just been a great opportunity for many women at UPS around the world. Thank you.
