Hello and welcome to Hanover. My name is Craig Balis and I'm the CTO at Garrett, responsible for our engineering and technology. I'm happy to speak to you from IAA in Hanover, where on display are some of the latest trends in powertrain and vehicles in the commercial vehicle industry.
Taking a look around IAA, we see three exciting powertrain trends. Euro 7's emissions reduction combined with driving the next steps in fuel efficiency and CO2 reduction. Complementing this is the continuing electrification of vehicles and powertrains, and this year we see a big acceleration of activity on hydrogen, both fuel cells and hydrogen fuel internal combustion engines.
To bring differentiated technology solutions for these trends, Garrett has invested for many years in the fundamentals of technology, and we now have cutting-edge capabilities in four key domains. High-speed turbo machinery is our traditional strength, and here we continue to advance the state of the art in aerodynamics, kinematics, and advanced technologies such as oil-free foil bearings.
Now we add to this high-speed electric motors, as demonstrated by our Pace award-winning e-turbo. Garrett has mastered the design and manufacturing of high-speed electric motors spinning at more than 200,000 RPM. To drive these high-speed machines, we have designed a range of advanced power electronics, where we are at the leading edge in power density, efficiency, high-speed control, and packaging in severe environments.
And finally, to control and optimize these advanced products, Garrett is leveraging our leading capabilities in model predictive controls to develop a full sweep of motor control, application, and system level software. All of these technologies have been developed in-house, which means that Garrett is now a mechanical, electrical, and software company.
You can see these technologies in Garrett's lineup of commercial vehicle products. We continue to advance the state of the art in turbocharging technology through such products as our latest fourth generation double axle variable geometry turbo and high efficiency wastegate turbo to help our customers meet Euro 7 and deliver higher fuel efficiency for their vehicles.
As seen here at IAA, the interest in hydrogen fuel internal combustion engines, or H2 ICE, is rapidly increasing. H2 ICE engines have unique challenges in terms of high boost pressure and fast response, and Garrett is already working with many customers to provide the optimized turbocharger solutions for this exciting opportunity.
Our award-winning e-turbo technology and production experience, which started in light vehicles, is now carrying over into commercial vehicles to take advantage of 48-volt architectures, where the combination of electrically assisted boosting and electrical regeneration support the next step of engine downsizing, productivity, and fuel efficiency.
And finally, Garrett was an early pioneer in the use of high-speed electrical compressors for fuel cells, and our latest advances in power density, efficiency, and oil-free bearings differentiate our latest generation of fuel cell compressors, where our customers make big gains in fuel cell system performance, cost, and durability.
