About Andrew Anderson

Andrew Anderson, Chief Information Officer at The Shyft, has released several instructional videos on bowling technique and equipment. In a video on ball fit, Anderson described proper fit as "the most important part of bowling" for one-handed bowlers and demonstrated how to check span and pitch, stating that a correctly fitted ball should require "zero pressure to the thumb hole" and that the thumb should "fly out of the ball" upon release. He also discussed the difference between bowling ball cores and coverstocks, asserting that "the cover of the bowling ball is definitely by far the most important" because it creates traction on the lane, while the core dictates hook potential. Anderson explained that surface adjustments, such as changing grit from 500 to 4,000, can alter ball motion significantly. In other content, Anderson demonstrated an arsenal-building strategy for the USBC Nationals in Las Vegas, describing his approach as "filling a golf bag" with balls of varying strength and motion to adapt to different lane conditions. He stated that variety in ball motion is crucial and that "just because the ball doesn't look good at that very moment doesn't mean it's not going to look good later in the day." Anderson also participated in a challenge devised by Jillian, where he attempted to score exactly 243 without going over, using a Subzero Forge ball. He finished with a 279, remarking, "I lost at the game... first real game of me bowling some competition with this ball is 279, I'll take it."

It's 243 or 300, nothing in between.
Hi everybody, Andrew Anderson here. We are going to play a new fun game that Jillian has thought of today for me to try. She has picked the arbitrary score of 243. Now, the rules: I have to get pins in every single frame, and I have to get 243 without going over. So closest I can get without going over. So 242 is not bad, 240 is not bad. If I shoot 196, probably not looking too good. And as soon as I hit 244, I'm out. So it's a different challenge. I've never done anything like this. But for 243, she thinks I'm going to strike a lot, because if I miss too many times early on, we're going to be quite screwed. So here we go, let's give it a try.
All right, here we go. New challenge means we're going to throw a new bowling ball. We got the Subzero Forge here. It's going to be the only ball I throw for the challenge. 243 is going to require at least probably a five or six bagger at some point. Oh no, hook. Ooh, all right, good break right off the rip. Let's go. But we can't go over either. So if I start high, like if I start with the front four, I'm not the sandbagging type, but I might be missing on purpose.
Okay, we got to pause just for a second. Okay, there's something on the lane. Yeah, something red. You saw that, right? Yeah, let me get this. Here we go. How does that get there?
All right, back in action for frame two. We had to get something off the lane. We had a ghost throw something on the pin deck, and we're back. So we got the first one. See if we can keep it going. There we go. All right, two for two. 243. We're going to have to do some math here, without going over. So I don't know. I really want my max score going into the tenth to be like 244, because then all I have to do is double and get nine. But then I'm really testing it, because if I can't go over, so tough, tough game. Hook, hook. Oh baby, got one. Got one. All right, front three. We're on pace, we're on pace. Can't start with like 217 for me, you know, something easy. Easier. Got to give me 243.
All right, got to throw a little slower than that.
Okay, the problem here is that I don't have a plan yet, you know. I'm just seeing what happens up until like frame seven. I'm just seeing what happens, because I have to get pins every frame. So I can't even like go front eight, gutter, gutter. That would be... I could go front eight, like one zero, but that's considered getting pins.
Carry. Okay.
Okay, now Jillian, you know what you're doing here though. Like if I have the front eight, we're not giving the people what they want. We're throwing off the chance with 300 with the Subzero. I don't know, I'm due for like a four pin soon. Maybe not. All right, that's front six. This is where I got to start thinking about the score. Because if I get to the front eight, if I go front eight, gutter, gutter, gutter, gutter, I think that's 240, right? I don't know.
All right, new rule. What's the new rule? You get the front ten? Yep. I will allow you to not do the 300. So the score only changes if I strike on this one? Yeah, yeah. All right, I like that. Because honestly, I kind of want to see 12. Now the pressure is on though. I think you might have just... Is that like a jinx? Yeah.
Thanks. Okay, rules have changed. It's 243 or 300, nothing in between.
Pressure's on. Technically, I'll be the first one to have a 300 with this ball, because I don't think anybody else has it. Hook, carry. Ooh, got away with one there. That's nine. That's nine. I feel like this feels a little different than most of them, you know. I started with this as a game, and now we turned into possibly bowling a perfect one. One good shot at a time.
Can we just have a moment of silence for how bad that shot was? It almost struck. It almost struck.
Almost. Well, I lost the game, but we're going to try to strike here for 279. Honestly, let's shoot a more fun score. Let's shoot like... I'm going to try to get four here for 273. At least I'll have two of the numbers right. That's so disappointing. So close. Okay, 243. I'm going to try to go four through the middle. I'm going to go like four back right, spin it, and see if I can give four. Only that one strikes. This ball strikes no matter what.
Well, I lost. I lost at the game. We gave it a good run for a cool score. You know, first real game of me bowling some competition with this ball is 279. I'll take it. That was impressive. I did not expect that. So dang. We'll have to try again next time. Maybe she'll give me an easier score like 217, or maybe just she'll give me 300, because I'm a little disappointed now. But thanks for watching as always. If you liked it, you know, put it in the comments below. Anything that you want to see different, some other fun things we can add to this game, let me know.
