Sanchez also said that "the world needs the energy that comes from the Middle East" and that his company aims to support developing these resources "in a sustainable and responsible way." He noted that Nabors has invested in a carbon reduction portfolio, including fuel enhancers to reduce emissions and automation to optimize engine use on rigs.

VP International Operations and Clint Ford, VP Global Sales and Marketing at Nabors. Gentlemen, welcome to this interview. Let's start by how important it is for companies and governments to be part of ADIPEC.
C
Clint Ford0:27
First of all, thanks a lot for the invitation and for the interview. It is extremely important. ADIPEC has taken the industry to another level. Now it's the biggest show worldwide when it comes to oil and gas, and it's a great atmosphere and a great place where we all come to talk to multiple customers and industry leaders around the world about the themes that are driving our industry. You get to see all the technical presentations being given by multiple experts, and additionally you get to have this great exhibition that shows you all the different vendors and companies supporting our industry. ADIPEC is by far the most important show today in oil and gas, and I really congratulate the government of UAE and ADNOC for hosting and pushing it.

Clint, you are operating in the Middle East for some time now. How do you see the region evolving in its energy transition, and how is Nabors supporting it?
C
Clint Ford1:29
There's no question the world needs the energy that comes from the Middle East. We want to be a big part of the support provided to develop these resources, but we also recognize that they need to be developed in a sustainable and responsible way. The operators within the Middle East are calling that challenge, and we're supporting them. We've invested significantly in our carbon reduction portfolio. We have a number of technologies that help our customers solve these problems, and of course we're spending a lot of time this week talking about them while we're here at ADIPEC.

Can you give us some examples about these technologies?
C
Clint Ford2:03
Several of the technologies we've been working on for some time. The simplest is a fuel enhancer that, by adding into the diesel mix, changes the way the diesel is consumed and reduces the amount of emissions and knocks created from the burning of the fuel. Further than that is some automation we're implementing in the rigs that allows us to have visibility to the number of engines required to operate the rig effectively, and we have the opportunity to optimize the way those engines are being used and take the engines offline, which reduces fuel consumption. So it's a cost savings to our customer, but of course because there's less fuel consumption, there are fewer emissions as well.

Miguel, tell me more about challenges. How are you navigating these challenges, and what are you worried most about?
M
Miguel Sanchez2:54
Really, my biggest concern today is people. We see the industry is ramping up very fast, and we have not been able to manage resources. When I talk about resources, I mean people and services to be able to deliver the speed that the customers have been demanding from us. So we're working really hard internally to ensure that we have the right training programs for our people, that we can round them up and ramp them up through the system fast enough so they can be ready to initiate the drilling operations. At the same time, we're working with our vendors to ensure that we have the items and equipment we need in the time we need it, and trying to do our best planning internally and working with our customers to ensure we're on time to drill faster and more efficient, safer wells for them. So those are really the main challenges.
