About Michael Manos

In September 2023, Michael Manos discussed the impact of automation on jobs. He stated that every new innovation that introduces automation or orchestration has been described as a "jobs killer," but he said these developments evolve into the next level of complexity. Manos commented that "the easy stuff keeps getting automated away but the hard complex more human things still remain," adding that complexity continues to press people and ideas for work. In September 2022, Manos thanked the Dun & Bradstreet technology team for moving the company's mainframe technology from an old data center to a new one. He described the effort as "unbelievably complicated" and noted that in his 30 years of running large technology teams, such projects "always get messed up." Manos said the team executed the move without any customer impact and that the coordination involved teams across the company and with partners. He expressed that the team "could not execute better."

Hey everybody, it's Mike Manos, the CTO here at D&B, and I appreciate you allowing me to break into whatever you are doing online right now to watch this video because I have something important I want to share. This past weekend, we had a very significant piece of work happen that I don't think a lot of people really truly understand. We moved our mainframe technology from the old data center to the new data center. While that may not seem like a big effort, the actual work involved has been significant. It involved not just the technology teams but teams from across the company, coordinating with our customers, integrating into different work streams, making sure that we didn't mess things up. I can tell you, in my 30 years of running large technology teams, projects and efforts as big as what we just did this last weekend always get messed up—we always have problems. It doesn't matter how big you are or how put together you are; these are super complicated efforts. And we nailed it. We nailed that. The technology teams were able to do this move unbelievably complicated. Almost all of our products and services are back-ended on this technology, and they picked it up and moved it without any customer impact. That's incredible. The coordination with our customers, making sure they were ready and prepared, and the vetting to make sure that after we had moved that they were still okay—it took everybody. It took everybody in the company. I just wanted to share a quick message of thanks, heartfelt thanks really, for all of the effort that went in across the company, across the partners that were involved, and all the involvement we put in place. You could not execute better. I just feel like sometimes we've got to call out those things that we do exceptionally well, and we do this exceptionally well. Thank you very much for allowing me to interrupt your browsing.
