My name is David Tweardy and I'm an infectious disease specialist here at MD Anderson. My job at MD Anderson is to ensure that patients who develop complications of their care that involve infections get the very best of treatment and are able to move through those infections and therefore continue to receive the therapy that they need for their cancer. We care for the most sick patients who have cancer, leukemia patients, stem cell transplant patients, patients who've undergone very complex surgical procedures to treat their cancer. My approach is to ensure that they get the best of care within the realm of infectious diseases and that we make the correct diagnosis. We initiate the best treatment and we follow through on that treatment to ensure that they can move forward in their cancer journey. What I'm hoping to accomplish is that we continue to take the best of care for our patients and that we implement the next generation of antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals into their care to continue to improve on our care for them and allow them to make progress. What I'm most proud of is seeing every patient we care for get the very best of care and seeing them improve almost invariably under our care and move forward. My name is David Tweardy and I'm making cancer history.
