What is it that we're trying to do? What is it that we do at Microsemi? Now it's about powering a smart, secure, and connected world. That's what we're about at Microsemi with the technologies we offer, from components, RF and analog, customizable SoCs, as well as subsystems in the high barrier to entry market.
Earlier this year we talked about SmartFusion. It was a very important product announcement for us. It's been doing very well in the industry, it's been beating our expectations. And today I'm going to introduce to you the next technology we're going to be offering from the customizable SoC division.
The 65 nanometer embedded flash is state of the art. We will be the first to market with 65 nanometers embedded flash. It's state-of-the-art technology. It's been in collaboration with UMC. It will be the industry's first offering, twice the performance of what we've had in the past, orders of magnitude larger in programmable logic densities.
It provides all the attributes that our customers require or want from flash technology. Those attributes are SEU immunity, reliability, low power, and security. So those continue with 65 nanometers embedded flash.
We offer the intelligence. We continue with integrating microcontrollers, true microcontrollers, into our devices with flash technology. Connecting the world, we've added something that we've never done in our products before. We added high-speed interfaces, we added hard signal processing blocks, we've added lots of other communication forces into our product that did not exist before.
Why? That enables us to expand the benefits of flash to the rest of the industry. If you look at the terrestrial market, you can divide it in half when it comes to programmable logic. Half of the market, or half of the components being sold today, serve what I'm going to refer to as datapath. This is high-speed communications. It's about getting bandwidth in, it's about faster, faster bandwidth, it's about communications.
If you're not doing high-speed communications, you're doing what I'm going to refer to as sense and control. It means you're sensing something, you're controlling something. That's why you're using the programmable logic. That is the market that we at Microsemi under the customizable SoC division are focusing on.
