About Tiffany Mason

Tiffany Mason, Chief Financial Officer at Block, has spoken about her experience of being sexually molested and exploited seven years ago, describing it as a crossroad where she decided to view the situation as an opportunity to grow rather than allowing it to negatively affect her life. She has stated that she faced negativity, guilt, shame, and humiliation, including hearing from others that she was "not good enough" and that "it was your fault." Mason said she believes every challenge in life is a lesson and that adversity can be viewed as an opportunity to become a better person. Mason has also discussed her work-life balance as a full-time employee, full-time mother of two children (one in college and one at home), and owner of a side business that keeps her working seven days a week. She described herself as a "type A personality" who tries to "do it all" but acknowledged that she sacrifices her well-being and self-care because she is constantly giving to others. Mason said she has problems letting go of control and trusting others to do things right, which she described as defeating herself. She has led workshops focusing on three strategies: living in alignment with one's values, prioritizing the day, and nourishing one's inner being. Mason has also authored a book titled *The Power of Adversity*, available on Amazon.

I was at a crossroad and basically I had to figure out, okay, am I going to allow this situation to negatively affect the rest of my life, or am I going to view this as an opportunity to grow and develop? And that's exactly what I did.

Just all this negativity, guilt, shame, humiliation, hearing it from other people: you're not good enough, it was your fault. So obviously it is difficult, but at the end of the day, do you want to live within the past, or do you want to be able to expand your options and look towards the future?

Now through her workshops, Tiffany says she's able to help other women with the tough balancing act of work and life.

Full-time employee, full-time mother. I have one in college, I have one that still needs me at home who's young. I have my own business on the side that keeps me working seven days a week. And of course, type A personality, I can do it all. We're constantly wearing so many different hats, and it's easy to sacrifice our well-being, our self-care, because we're constantly giving to other people. So with this workshop, we're going to focus on three specific strategies that I'm going to teach my participants. Number one, it's to live in alignment with your values. Number two, it's to prioritize your day. And number three, it's to start nourishing your inner being.

We're all experiencing challenges, we're all experiencing some form of stress, but at the end of the day, it's what's going on in here. So I'm trying to take off the super mom, super nurse cape. I want to be able to put some of the responsibilities in other people's hands, but because I don't trust anyone to do it right, yes, because my way is the only right way. So I'm defeating myself because I have problems letting go of the control. And so you have two options: you have the option of viewing whatever your current situation in a negative way or as a positive way. How can I take a step back and ask yourself, how can I learn from this situation? How can I grow from this opportunity?

And she says every challenge in life is a lesson to learn from.

Look at it as an opportunity to grow. How can I view this adversity as an opportunity that will make me a better person, make me a better mother, make me a better sister? And just move forward. I believe everything happens for a reason. If it's good, if it's bad, everything happens for a reason. And you can always take a piece of wisdom from everything that you experience in life and implement that into your life so that you can continue going on your journey and continue to start designing the life that you really want and deserve.
