About Nissia Sabri
In a 2020 company video, Nissia Sabri, then Vice President of Technology at Novanta, discussed the company's approach to innovation and problem-solving. Sabri stated that customers come to Novanta when they are "doing first of a kind things" that no one else can help them with, describing this as part of the company's DNA. She described a second lens to innovation as how the company internally breaks down problems and challenges each other, noting that if "everyone is looking at the problem in the same way you don't spark new thinking."
Sabri attributed the company's ability to generate multiple options for addressing problems to assembling a team with diverse technology and professional backgrounds. She acknowledged that working on complex technology presents challenges, such as things not working as expected or taking longer to deliver innovation. Sabri said the company overcomes these challenges by working closely with customers, adding that Novanta is "in the trenches designing and building and testing."

I think in our DNA as a company, and the way we work with customers, they come to see us when they are doing first-of-a-kind things, things they haven't done before, and for the most part that no one else out there can help them do. So that's really stretching our thinking and our ability to innovate. The second lens to innovation is really what happens inside the company. How we take problems, we slice them and look at one piece at a time. How we challenge each other, ask questions. If everyone is looking at the problem in the same way, you don't spark new thinking. So the fact that this company was able to assemble a team that comes from different technology backgrounds, from different professional backgrounds, really allows for these very interesting conversations where you go in with only a problem and you come out with many options to address it.
I think, like in every company, and especially when you are working on complex technology, there are challenges. Something... sometimes things just don't work the way you expected them to work. Sometimes it takes longer to actually be able to provide that innovation. The way we overcame the challenges really is to work very closely with our customers, because that's what matters, that's why they trust us. We are in the trenches designing and building and testing.
