About Dennis Nixon

Dennis Nixon, chairman and president of International Bancshares, appeared on two episodes of the Morning Brew podcast in June and July 2026, where he discussed his 60-year career in banking, leadership lessons, and the growth of IBC Bank from a community bank into one of Texas's largest independent banking organizations. Nixon credited the bank's success to its emphasis on community involvement and a "we do more" philosophy, which he said is reinforced through regional banking centers, local boards of directors, and corporate meetings. Nixon also offered opinions on several political and economic topics. He described immigration as a workforce issue, referring to a "demographic winter" in developed countries, and criticized the Biden administration's border policy, stating that it "poisoned the well" by allowing "a lot of bad people" into the country and that "criminals and bad people" entered "not just from Mexico and Latin America, but from all over the world." He expressed concern about voter complacency, citing the primary loss of Senator John Cornyn and stating that "only 1.2 million people voted out of 19 eligible voters." Additionally, Nixon said his industry had been "suffocated by restrictions and controls" and that requirements related to DEI and "woke things" pushed consumers toward "predatory practice industries."

Very humbled because this is a magnificent facility, as you can see. This auditorium will serve all of Laredo, Los Dos Laredos, bring people together, be able to enjoy life, have fun, create wonderful spirit in the city. Those things are all spectacular things that I believe in and have my name up there where people come and go and say, 'We're going to be at the Dennis Nixon Auditorium for an event.' That's just spectacular. As I said in my remarks, you have a few things in your life that will really mark you, and this is one of those things. So I'm very grateful to all the people involved in this project.

Today we are gathered to celebrate this beautiful new landmark that will bear his name. It is worthy to think that today's generation of students, as well as future generations of students, parents, and visitors, will enter these doors and look up and see the name Dennis E. Nixon.
