About Christopher Lau
In a September 2023 interview marking the 10-year anniversary of American Homes 4 Rent’s IPO, CFO Christopher Lau stated that the company is "proudly the 39th largest homebuilder in the country and the largest integrated owner operator and developer of single family rental homes." He said the company is "part of the solution to help solve the housing shortage in our country by adding thousands of homes all across the country each year that are meaningfully less expensive to rent compared to homeownership." Lau noted that as of that date, the company owned nearly 60,000 single-family rental homes and was building 2,200 to 2,300 homes that year.
Lau also referenced the company's impact on the housing sector, saying that in addition to creating value for shareholders, the company is "creating value for shareholders as well as our residents and our local communities." CEO David Singelyn added that the company's mission for the next decade is to be "part of the solution of housing in this country," citing an undersupply of housing and the need for more high-quality rental options.

Exciting day today is the 10-year anniversary of your IPO. 10 years of being a public company. A lot has changed in 10 years. The floor has changed, our company has changed, the single-family rental industry has changed over the last 10 years. So Dave, now tell me, what do you think has been your greatest accomplishment over the past decade?
D
David Singlin0:39
Over the last 10 years, our 1,800 employees and many employees before that have really revolutionized and changed the single-family rental industry. Today, the single-family rental industry provides housing to hundreds of thousands of people who desire the rental product that we provide. The quality of the asset has been significantly improved over those 10 years, and the quality of the customer service has also been significantly improved through the professional management that American Homes has introduced into the single-family rental sector.

All right. Now Chris, in addition to owning and operating nearly 60,000 single-family rental homes today, AMH has also made an impact as a developer and a home builder. So tell me, how does it shape your overall value proposition?
C
Christopher Lau1:33
Yeah, that's right. So in addition to the value that we've created for shareholders over the past 10 years as we've revolutionized this concept of single-family rentals, today we are proudly the 39th largest homebuilder in the country, and we're also the largest integrated owner, operator, and developer of single-family rental homes. And so what's so special about that is, in addition to continuing to create value for our shareholders through the development of really high-quality Class A communities in great locations, today we're also part of the solution to helping solve the housing shortage in our country, which everyone knows very, very well. And so today, you know, we're doing that by adding thousands of homes all across the country each and every year that, as of today, are meaningfully less expensive to rent compared to homeownership. And so that's really unique to the AMH story, as we're creating value for shareholders as well as our residents and our local communities too.

All right. And finally, Dave, tell me, what role do you see AMH playing in America's housing landscape over the next 10 years?
D
David Singlin2:36
You know, I look at all the accomplishments over the last 10 years, and they're numerous, but what we have really done is we have built a foundation to take what we have started and expand upon that. Today we own 60,000 homes. As Chris just indicated, we are building homes, so we're going to build 2,200, 2,300 homes this year. We are going to be part of the solution of housing in this country going forward. This country is undersupplied in housing. It needs more high-quality housing options, and that is our mission for the next 10 years.
