Gathering of global citizens now in Latin America on the eve of the G20 and ahead of next year's COP 30. There is no better place for us to call for urgent action from world leaders than right here in Rio de Janeiro. Last year, Global Citizen came together at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on the seventh anniversary of the Paris climate change agreement. The promises made were bold and essential to limit global warming and protect our future, but the hard truth is that progress has been slow. That is exactly why we launched Power Our Planet to challenge the status quo. And that campaign mobilized incredible millions of global citizens. They took action, flooding the World Bank with messages, tweets, and calls. At the foot of the Eiffel Tower in front of 20,000 action-takers, World Bank President Ajay Banga stood with us and announced the commitment to allow countries to pause debt repayments during climate-induced emergencies.
This is just one step in a much larger journey. The Amazon rainforest right here in Brazil, which absorbs billions of tons of carbon and sustains countless species and cultures, is nearing a critical tipping point. The promises made in the Paris agreement nearly 10 years ago must now be met with real and tangible action. That is why we are here today, relaunching Power Our Planet with renewed urgency and an expanded mission. We know what is at stake and we know what needs to be done. Every day we see illegal logging, land clearing, and environmental degradation bringing us closer to the $1 billion in commitments or projects to support land protection and reforestation efforts. By supporting indigenous communities and environmental defenders, we can protect biodiversity, stabilize our climate, and uphold human rights.
Global fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty, beyond oil and gas. Now we know that climate change does not impact everyone equally. The most vulnerable often pay the highest price, and this is despite contributing the least to the climate crisis. So Global Citizen is demanding support for countries on the front lines of climate change who need support to rebuild, to recover, and to adapt. Now we know that these are ambitious goals, but Power Our Planet is not a campaign led from the top down. It is a movement powered by millions of voices around the world. Over the next year, we will engage citizens, artists, leaders, and advocates across the globe, from Rio to New York to Johannesburg to Belem, from local communities to world stages. We will hold decision-makers accountable and demand bold commitments. But this journey is not just about building pressure, it is also about...

So from now until COP 30, we have the chance collectively to make history, to secure lasting commitments to protect our planet for future generations, and show the world what is possible when we act together.
