Determined early on in the pandemic that the elderly were the most vulnerable, and therefore those that are in our care, those that are in skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, memory care facilities, and independent living facilities are even more vulnerable. The staff that provides care to the residents and patients in these facilities are as much heroes as the hospital staff are, and we simply haven't been prioritized. It's incredible to me because it was inevitable that the things that have happened in skilled nursing facilities and senior housing would have happened. We still are hurting from supplies, we still have staffing issues just like the hospitals, and we deserve to be prioritized. Our facilities and the staff deserve to get the support from the public and from the media. Hopefully that will change, and our space, just like the hospitals, will get the support and recognition and understanding that they truly deserve. Family members that are involved with their parents or grandparents or loved ones in the facilities clearly understand how much those facilities do. People are there because they care, and the people that are there very often become second families to the patients and residents they provide care for. I want to take this moment to thank all the staff out there for showing up every day as they always do, regardless of their personal situations and the family obligations that they have.
