About D. Loper
In a September 2021 appearance, D. Loper, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Hancock Whitney, discussed the bank's role in its communities. Loper stated that during the pandemic the bank processed over $2.4 billion in SBA loans to assist small businesses across its five-state footprint. He said that "economic development and banking being partners" are interdependent, and that the bank aims to "reinvest in the community" and "be a part of the community" rather than merely operating within it. Loper also commented on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, describing his daily commute to the bank's headquarters in Gulfport as passing through "some of the most beautiful scenery in the gulf south."

Our bank has been kind of a mainstay, I would say, of the community. I mean, we recently, as part of the pandemic, did over 2.4 billion dollars worth of SBA loans to help small businesses across our five-state footprint. When you talk about economic development and banking being partners, I don't think one can exist without the other. So that's why we believe that it's so important to be part of the community versus just being in the community. I think that the bank has always been a company that will reinvest in the community, and we love to be part of the communities that we serve. We don't want to be just in the community; we want to be a part of the community. So why would you ever leave the Mississippi Gulf Coast? I mean, I drive back and forth to Gulfport, Mississippi, where our headquarters is, on a day-in and day-out basis, and I get to drive about 25 miles one way along some of the most beautiful scenery in the Gulf South.
