About Robyn Jones

Robyn Jones, co-founder and vice chairman of Goosehead Insurance, is also a certified speaker and trainer affiliated with Maxwell Leadership. In a 2022 promotional video, she described herself as passionate about personal development and offering training in leadership, communication, and goal setting, stating that she provides "time tested programs" for individuals and groups, both online and in person. She was introduced in the video by John Maxwell, who described her as a member of his certified team. In a 2014 interview, her husband and Goosehead CEO Mark E. Jones recounted that the company was founded after Robyn Jones, who was managing real estate investments, could not find an insurance agent she considered "smart and cared about our business," leading her to start her own agency. Mark Jones stated that the company had grown to become the 12th largest personal lines insurance agency in the United States and the largest in Texas, and that its growth plans called for a compound annual growth rate of more than 30% over the next five years. He also described the insurance industry as "massive" and "highly fragmented," allowing for successful business growth without significant competitive threats.

It's an interesting story. We got into this business by accident. I had been a longtime partner at Bain and Company. They had asked me previously if I would focus on the insurance industry. My answer was no, I would never spend all my time working in insurance because I could not ever imagine working in that business. We had invested in some real estate that my wife Robin was managing, and she couldn't find an insurance agent that she thought was smart and cared about our business, so she threw up her hands and said, 'I'm starting my own.' What happened is I was finding I needed to spend more and more time helping, and I learned some really interesting things. Firstly, the industry is massive, it's monstrous. There's $1.3 trillion a year in insurance premium in the United States every year. It's highly fragmented, so you can build a very successful business and no one has enough market power that they can stomp you out or do anything about it. I get up in the morning and I'm never worried about competitive threats because we don't feel them. We've now grown to become the 12th largest personal lines insurance agency in the United States. We're the largest in Texas. We're very excited about the business, very excited for growth. Our growth plans call over the next five years for a compound annual growth rate of 30% a year, a little more than 30% a year. So we're very bullish and optimistic about the future.
