Hello, my name is Jeffrey Dayno and I'm the Chief Medical Officer at Harmony Biosciences. Harmony is a commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing innovative therapies for orphan rare neurological diseases. As Chief Medical Officer at Harmony, I'm responsible for overseeing the clinical development team, clinical operations, our Regulatory Affairs Group, Medical Affairs, as well as pharmacovigilance or product safety. These groups all work together in support of our clinical development programs, as well as interacting with our commercial team when we prepare for product approvals and launching new products.
What excites me in my role, I think, is the passion and energy and the commitment in what we do. At Harmony, we talk about patience, passion, and purpose, and we're focused on orphan rare neurological disorders and patients living with those conditions. The passion that we have at Harmony for that mission, committed to that purpose, I think that is what keeps me going. The other part, what I've tried to do, is with all of my clinical experience initially in my career, I brought that model into what I do in pharma in my role as CMO. At the end of the day, a lot of it is about a healthcare professional sitting across from a patient making a treatment decision, understanding what the therapeutic options are. In our field, that starts with our sales representatives educating HCPs about the risks and benefits of a product, and with that information they make a therapeutic decision for a given patient. It's really important to understand that dynamic. So I've tried to bring an understanding of that dynamic from clinical practice into what we do in the industry at its core, going back to drug development and working towards the target product profile, understanding the clinical relevance of where that product fits into therapy. So I think what excites me is also the big picture, the overall strategic vision from not just drug development but supporting putting together the medical strategy in what we do in support of the commercial strategy, and working towards submitting a new drug application or an NDA to the FDA, and preparing for an approval and a product launch, which is where my medical teams get involved in supporting the commercial team preparing for launch and then going out and launching a new product.
