Good morning, Faith Family. Welcome to our morning devotion again. Today I'll be talking about Psalms 25. Allow me to read to you these Psalms. Here now the word of God: In you, Lord, I try my God. I put my trust. I trust in you. Do not let me be put to shame. Not let my enemies triumph over me. No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause. Show me your ways, Lord. Teach me your paths. Guide me in truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways. According to your love, remember me, for you, Lord, are good. Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his ways. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant. For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Who then are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land. The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. Look on my affliction and my distress, and take away all my sins. See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me. Guard my life and rescue me. Do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you. Deliver Israel, O God, from all their troubles. This is the word of God. Thanks be to God.
You know, as I read these Psalms, it helps me to think of my own situation where I was helpless and hopeless in a difficult situation. And I'm sure many of us do feel that way once in a while. And David too was feeling that way, helpless and hopeless. But how did he resolve this situation? He began by a God-honoring prayer. He recognized in verses one to three the enemies surround him, but he saw God and he honored God by saying, 'Show me your ways, teach me your path, guide me in your truth and teach me, for you God are my Savior.' He was honoring God for who he is, and he recognized God as the source of help. Then he went on from verse six to verse ten, where he began to be God-centered. He began to recognize the attributes of God. He went on to say that God has mercy and is gracious towards him and forgives him for all the sins he has committed. So he aligned himself back to be God-centered in his thought. And with that, he gained great confidence, as you see in the last part from verse eleven to verse twenty-two, where here this God-sized confidence, where towards the end he says, 'Deliver Israel, O God, from all their troubles.' And here we begin to learn a few short lessons: that whenever we feel helpless or hopeless, return our eyes towards God and honor him for who he is, and recognize that he's the source of our help, and have this God-sized confidence to resolve them. And this is what this Psalm is all about: learning to walk right, learning to live right in the eyes of God and in the eyes of man, and never to succumb to situations or attention. We are helpless and hopeless. We tend to be angry, we tend to be frustrated, and we get agitated with people around us. Why not turn our eyes to God in prayer, honor him, align ourselves with him, and have this God-sized confidence that God will deliver us?
