About Lance Rosenzweig
Lance Rosenzweig, CEO of Pitney Bowes, rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on January 17, 2025, to mark the company's 75th IPO anniversary. In an interview that day, he described the company as "incredibly resilient" and said that when he joined the prior year it was "to implement a turnaround plan." He stated that the company had executed strategic initiatives that had "a really great impact on the business, on our profitability and on our prospects." Rosenzweig highlighted growth in the company's Centech shipping business and its presort business, and said that in 2025 the company is increasingly applying package optimization technology to the B2C market. He also noted that the company is using AI to save costs and improve client performance, calling it "a very valuable tool."
In a September 2018 interview on CNBC's Mad Money, then-CEO Marc Lautenbach discussed the company's transformation from a mail-metering business into a logistics and technology company. He said the company had "moved the weighted average growth of the portfolio" from negative to positive and described the acquisition of Newgistics as a way to address e-commerce returns. Lautenbach stated that the company's core mail business had "regulatory barriers to entry" that sustained cash flow, and that the company was positioning itself to "take the complexity out of shipping" through software-as-a-service applications.

Hey Kristen, that's right. As we mentioned earlier on in the show, Pitney Bowes is celebrating its 75th anniversary on the New York Stock Exchange. CEO Lance Rosenzweig just rang the opening bell, opening up trading for the day. He's joining me now. Lance, it's great to have you on the show fresh off of the bell podium. You have a bright smile on your face. Congratulations. How are you feeling right now?
L
Lance Rosenzweig0:23
Feeling great. I mean, it's the 75th anniversary of Pitney Bowes' IPO, and very few companies have made it that long. Very proud to be representing the company.
K
Kristen0:33
75 years, that's a huge accomplishment. Talk to me about all of the hard work, the dedication, but also the key milestones that you're most proud of, you know, standing behind this company that's been around for so long.
L
Lance Rosenzweig0:44
Yeah, it's an incredibly resilient company. Started by Arthur Pitney and Mr. Bowes over 100 years ago. Over the course of the years, there's been a tremendous evolution. There's been new products, there's been new services. We're super excited about our new businesses now and just couldn't be more thrilled.

Talk to me about you know being with the company during your tenure here. What are some of the milestones that you're most proud of?
L
Lance Rosenzweig1:08
Yeah, so when I joined the company last year, it was really to implement a turnaround plan. It wasn't the first time I've done this, but I think it was in many ways the most impactful time. We were really able to take the company through a series of strategic initiatives that had a really great impact on the business, on our profitability, and on our prospects. Super proud of the team for having done that.
K

And now your company has been helping clients since 1920. Talk to me about this transition and how you've kept up with innovation and evolving times.
L
Lance Rosenzweig1:40
Yeah, it's really a testament to our team and our creativity to be innovating in new areas, new products, new opportunities. Our SendTech business has really grown tremendously in its shipping area with really exciting new technologies, and our presort business has evolved and has been consistently growing as well.
K
Kristen1:58
What are some key innovations that we can anticipate from Pitney Bowes as we look ahead to 2025?
L
Lance Rosenzweig2:03
Yeah, one of the exciting ones is in our shipping world. It's the ability for companies to optimize their packages and to pick the best carrier, the best costs, the quickest delivery, and to manage all of that within a great analytic framework. We have been doing that in the B2B world, and in 2025 we're starting to increasingly do that in the B2C world.
K
Kristen2:26
And you know, the implementation of AI, GenAI obviously. Even Pitney Bowes, start to implement this more into their business strategy. Talk to me about how you're helping leverage that technology to meet clients' needs.
L
Lance Rosenzweig2:38
Yeah, it's both cost and it helps us to save cost in many areas of the company and improve performance with our clients. We think AI is a very valuable tool and exciting to be innovating with.
K
Kristen2:49
Who are your clients?
L
Lance Rosenzweig2:50
Our clients include over 90% of the Fortune 500 and over half a million companies around the world.
K
Kristen2:56
Incredible. Global company. Any expansion plans? I know that you already have a very large footprint, but any more expansion plans?
L
Lance Rosenzweig3:03
Yeah, we do have a large footprint, and in several areas of the company we're seeing some really nice growth and expansion.
K
Kristen3:08
Amazing. Well, thank you so much. It was a pleasure having you on the show today, and it was great to see you on that bell podium.
L
Lance Rosenzweig3:14
Thank you, Kristen. Really appreciate it. It's a pleasure having you.
