I believe that people love musicals because there's nothing that touches people in the way that music does. I think that it can take you there in three beats. What can take you to get somewhere emotionally, in happiness or sadness, or the blues or a broken heart, or anything that you're going through? The fastest path to that is music, and because of that, I think that it affects people on a very immediate kinesthetic kind of level, and they can get there like that.
There's an enormous ease with both Ronan and Laura Michelle. They're both such, they have such god-given talents, and they can sing anything.
Working with Magda's been incredible. She has come into this and not done a huge amount of singing, even though she's worked in musical theater. But when she came in, she heard the song, she loved the song. Thanks, Magda. And she said, 'I want to have a go with this. I want to do this song, and I think I can do it.' And she came in and she just simply nailed it.
There's a way to find a balance between following your dream professionally and following your dream personally, and I think that that is what the film will give people.
