About Raul Valentin

Raul Valentin, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Astec, was featured in a September 2024 Advent International video marking Hispanic Heritage Month. In the video, Valentin discussed his role in Advent’s portfolio support group and his five-year tenure at the firm. He described the firm’s Latin at Advent initiative as “one of the first Latino diversity initiatives in private Equity,” stating that it provides “differentiated access to talent that probably right now is a little bit harder to find.” Valentin also commented on the value of diversity, saying that “diversity drives value not for the sake of diversity but because different points of view brings a lot of strength to the group.” He added that Advent encourages employees to “bring sort of our uniqueness into portfolio companies into deal environments into the internal workings of the company,” contrasting this with other workplaces that he said do not encourage people to be themselves.

I want to make sure that my kids grow up in a place that is welcoming as long as you're respecting everyone around you. Now I'm pretty passionate about helping this become an even bigger deal inside and outside of ABM. My name is Raul Valentin. I'm part of Advent portfolio support group. I'm a vice president. I've been with ABM for the past 5 years. The piece that I love most about my job is the folks that I work with, both at Advent and our portfolio companies. The ability to talk to a managing partner or an associate, get feedback from both of them integrated into the work we do, is pretty unique. Who you are and being happy in your own skin is something that we should all aspire to. Latin at Advent is effectively a way for us to bring together both the internal community of Latinos and Latinas that work at Advent. I do believe this is one of the first Latino diversity initiatives in private equity. It gives us differentiated access to talent that probably right now is a little bit harder to find. Diversity drives value, not for the sake of diversity, but because different points of view bring a lot of strength to the group. Not every place encourages you to be yourself, and I think what Advent does pretty well is asking us to opine and bring our uniqueness into portfolio companies, into deal environments, into the internal workings of the firm.
