We have a great big announcement today. We were able to acquire an important parcel of land. This parcel is called the Big Level. It sits just adjacent to our North Block and it is 954 acres of land.
And what is so cool about this is that it is the largest individual purchase of land for conservation by Bernheim since Isaac Wolf Bernheim bought the original 12,500 acres in 1928 and 29. I'm fortunate enough to be the representative of the Bernheim family. My grandmother was actually Mr. Bernheim's daughter and grew up in the house here in Louisville. But this is such a family day because we're celebrating a Simon family which has been so active in Bullitt County and has owned this land and made it possible for us to buy it today. And so I think today is a celebration of Bernheim, a celebration of nature, and also a celebration of family.
Starting the circle of us being children coming to Bernheim, we were very young and appreciating this lovely place, and now being able for our family to participate in the sale of the land to Bernheim is a joyful time. It's delightful to know that it's going to be saving so many habitats of endangered species. Isaac Wolf Bernheim believed that nature was regenerative and restorative and it was an equalizer for all people. The Simon family, from whom we purchased this land, also felt that nature was a fundamental principle in their development as a family and as individuals.
